DIRECTIONS/PARKING for the DFT

On Friday, June 6th at the Detroit Film Theatre, I’ll be presenting a special,  one-time-only showing of a film that’s extraordinary and memorable on many levels. We were able to obtain this “sneak” screening for Cinetopia only by keeping the title under wraps until the moment the lights go down. I can tell you only this: be there!

Though we’re bound to secrecy and can’t reveal the movie’s title, we can tell you that this classic and beloved blend of music and comedy – which had a profound impact on popular culture upon its original release – is celebrating a milestone anniversary this year. To commemorate the occasion, a sparkling new restoration from the original camera negative has been made under the personal supervision of the film’s director, and will be headed to the nation’s movie theaters in a little over a month. Additionally, the legendary soundtrack has been completely remastered, giving the entire experience a stunning new depth and a bright, rich new sonic clarity.

Described by critic Roger Ebert as “one of the great life-affirming landmarks of the movies,” it will open in a nationwide re-release in July – but for one night only, Detroit-area movie and music lovers will have the chance to see it on the big screen a month in advance! BONUS: free official posters to the first 250 patrons!

A Hard Day's Night is a 1964 British black-and-white comedy film directed by Richard Lester and starring the Beatles—John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr—during the height of Beatlemania. It was written by Alun Owen and originally released by United Artists. The film portrays a couple of days in the lives of the group. The film is considered to be one of the best and most influential musical films of all time.
