GOTO Night: DevOps evening with Michael Nygard

You MUST register for this event at

Join us for an upcoming DevOps evening with Michael Nygard hosted by GOTO Chicago team. Registration starts at 5:00 PM and we will serve beer, soft drinks and pizza until 6:00 PM. The presentations will begin at 6:00 PM.

The Talk

"When the Fur Flies: Dev and Ops Cooperation when the Worst Happens"

Abstract: There's nothing like a crisis to remove artificial barriers.
In this session, Michael will present an experience report about
development and operations coming together after a failed launch.
Aside from the fun of sharing war stories and comparing scars, what
can we learn about climbing out of a crater after the worst has
already happened? Can we capture the special magic of a firefighting
mission during more sedate times? Beyond all of that, come find out
how to stay out of the crater to begin with.

Michael characterized this talk as "It touches areas of technical architecture, production operations, organizational structure, and processes. I wrote it as an argument for DevOps, but it's actually more general than that.  The tone is more keynotish than most of my technical talks, so there is a lot of humor and, I hope, a bit of wisdom."

Michael Nygard strives to raise the bar and ease the pain for developers across the country. He shares his passion and energy for improvement with everyone he meets, sometimes even with their permission. Living with systems in production taught Michael about the importance of operations and writing production-ready software. Highly-available, highly-scalable commerce systems are his forte.

Michael has written and co-authored several books, including "97 Things Every Software Architect Should Know" and the best seller "Release It!", a book about building software that survives the real world.
