SF4D May Meetup: The GOP's War On Women & Seniors

  • May 17, 2011 · 7:00 PM
  • Schroeder's

Indiana governor (and probable GOP presidential contender) Mitch Daniels recently signed a bill whose ultimate aim is to defund Planned Parenthood facilities in that state.  Ohio Republican Senator John Boehner's talk of "means-testing" eligibility for Medicare is part of a stealth attack to drive people away from Medicare.  And GOP Representative Paul Ryan's allegedly adult approach to reforming Medicare involves a very stingy voucher that doesn't come close to covering seniors' medical needs.

Is it paranoid to believe the GOP is now dedicated to destroying America's major federal social programs?  Unfortunately, no.  But if one relies on the American news media to sound the alarm, one waits in vain.  Far too often, American political reporters parrot the GOP's public lies and unrealistic thinking.

This month's Meetup gives attendees a chance to obtain real firsthand information about the GOP's aggressive efforts to destroy the American social safety net.  Our two speakers will discuss the real stakes in the social conservatives' national legislative war against the health and well-being of women and seniors.  Speaking for Planned Parenthood will be Adrienne Bousian of Planned Parenthood Shasta Pacific.  Representing the seniors will be Michael Lyon of the Grey Panthers.

If you believe the social progress America has made in the course of the 20th century is worth defending, you need to attend this Meetup.  More importantly, you need to be ready to fight for your future and that of future generations.

As usual the speakers were knowledgeable about the subject. They also did a great job with questions.

I thought that the presentations were great. Both speakers were very knowledgeable. I love Michel Lyons but he needed to shorten his presentation. As Jane Morrison said--"Don't talk longer than 8 minutes"
