March Meetup--Medical Marijuana & Indefinite Detention

SF4D's newest Meetup looks at two current hot-button issues.

In recent months, the federal government has been using various means (e.g. creative claims of unpaid taxes) to drive California's medical marijuana dispensaries out of business.  Will this federal crackdown destroy medical marijuana access in California?  Will  patients who depend on marijuana to stay alive be forced to obtain their medicine from illicit dealers?  David Goldman from Americans for Safe Access will provide straight talk about the federal crackdown and other current medical marijuana access issues.

The recently passed National Defense Authorization Act allows the President to indefinitely detain suspected terrorists.  This provision thereby legalizes George W. Bush's practice of eliminating habeas corpus from American law.  Will there be more Guantanamo Bays in America's future?  Speaking on this issue are Ann Fagan Ginger of the Meiklejohn Civil Liberties Institute and Rachel Roberts of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

These controversial topics will provoke some lively debate, so come on by to listen and argue.

As usual, Peter did a great job of finding speakers. Too bad about the "sound system."

Five stars! Great information, especially the last part given to us by the great speaker regarding the NDAA. Chilling information!
