Well, Tim. it was the best that I could do. Never did a poll before and there are limitations. YEA, there are a lot of candidates(over 20), but, the Voter Registrar did not have the candidate list on their site, Wednesday.

Never intended to list all the candidates. Just could not think of the candidates... Mike Aguirre, yeah, I forgot. That is why I wrote " Other ". So far I have one Aguirre vote.

But Mike is not announcing till this morning at 10AM!

***FRI SEPT 13 at 10:00AM SHARP! "AGUIRRE ANNOUNCES FOR MAYOR TODAY (FRIDAY) MORNING 10AM " From: [masked] WHERE: FDR GROVE Balboa Park 2920 Balboa Drive (Quince and Balboa Drive-runs parallel with 6th Ave) San Diego, CA WHEN: 10:00 am sharp, Friday,[masked] Call Charles Langley at[masked] Gee, Alphabetic? Did not even think of it!

    That's all folks!

The poll seems strange, not alphabetical, names missing (Aquirre) and miss spelled (Fletcher not Felture). Can you explain why? Now 33 candidates not sure how many would be considered DEM.

  • Gail M.

Wow! What a meeting! It looks like no matter what we do, we have two flawed potential candidates that I'm afraid the Dems, progressive or not, are going to have a hard time backing. What a sad mess. Thank you, Carol, for all you do and say.

Thanks Gail. I know most members were not happy with me. But, I just do not want rush into decisions even though there is a need to act quickly.

Enjoyed meeting all and the discussions. Sounds like the challenge for the Mayor race is driving some strong emotions that hopefully will drive action

    Exciting & Great Discussion

This does not mean that we should not take sides in this matter or discuss possible candidates who we would like to see run in the next Mayoral election, but it does mean that we should not mis-characterize those who would like to see even the worst of criminals receive due process of law, and with all that has been revealed so far, I am not lead to believe that Bob Filner is the worst of the criminals in our midst. There are those who would like to rape the public in this town in a very serious financial way, unless we work to stop them.

Carl DiMiao did his best to characterize Bob Filner in a negative way in the mayoral campaign, however, considering the source, these charges were not as credible as similar charges made from people who formerly supported him.
Interestingly enough, most of the people who have come forward to charge Bob Filner with "sexual harassment" not only knew each other, but also have been involved in various ways with representatives of the power structure of this town, many of whom, like Irwin Jacobs, have had serious disagreements with Mayor Filner, and have suffered the consequences.
So, despite the fact that Bob Filner has, admittedly, harmed many people in his career in public service, and that these harms are coming back to haunt him, the way in which this whole matter is playing out before the public, seems more like a systematic witch hunt, than it does a simple revelation of the sexual picadillos of one Mayor Bob Filner.

The fact that Bob Filner has treated members of his staff, both male and female, badly over the years has been well known, even the knowledge of his being a "womanizer," so to speak, has not been very much of a secret, though no one had pressed charges against him in the past. Nevertheless, Jess Durfee, Democratic Central Committee Chair, was warned of such matters by both Olga Diaz and Lori Saldana. This was done before Bob Filner received the local Democratic Party's support in his campaign for Mayor of San Diego, and before others who might, also, have run were discouraged from doing so. Jeff has indicated that he discussed the matter with Bob, but decided to continue to support him any way.

Instead, revelations of his sexual escapades were revealed not to the UT, but rather to KPBS a more middle of the road media outlet. As far as going public with any of these sexual revelations, it was determined that they should be revealed to key Democratic Party figures, like Donna Frye, Cory Briggs, and Marco Gonzalez. The accusations, would be bound to weaken Bob Filner with women, one of his core constituencies. Moreover, the fact that their initial public airing was done by Democrats, rather than Republicans, gave it an air of non-partisanship, which was bound to hurt him with other key figures in his party.

  • John P. F.

In relation to the Recall, we have learned of evidence that it was, actually, begun in conjunction with his taking office in January, rather than in June when the sexual escapades started being publicized. Furthermore, it seems to have been strategically determined to emphasize both his past and present sexual escapades, rather than any of the major policy actions which have been bitterly opposed by powerful forces in this town. The word was that emphasizing the latter as reasons for recall would only make him a martyr to many of his supporters.

  • John P. F.

The question of how damaging to any one individual, e.g., Irene McCormack, were his actions should be decided in a court of law rather than through the media circus that we have been witness to. This, & the recall efforts underway are enough pressure to cause most politicians to resign; however, we know that Bob Filner is no ordinary politician. He has proved that with his record of winning elections. Nevertheless, anyone in this position, no matter how much intestinal fortitude they may have, will eventually suffer a breakdown of health & will & will be forced to capitulate.

    August 14, 2013

  • John P. F.

Bob Filner has self-destructed & must suffer the consequences. After all, it is he who has been treating key people who he has encountered badly, including his own staff, both male & female. Nevertheless, we should not be too hasty in anticipating the timing of these events. More information about why this is occurring precisely at this time, & with this set of participants, has recently been revealed, & must be taken into consideration in order to understand the full scope of what is going on.

I believe we play a significant role in local political matters, such as, the controversy over the actions of our current Mayor.
We should also respect the right of each of our members to speak!
