Voices of Women

Voices of Women Invites you to An Evening With BONITA CHAMBERLIN

Monday, November 5, 2007

Dr. Chamberlin has spent more than 30 years working in Afghanistan under 5 regimes: the monarchy/pre-Soviet invasion,
the Soviet occupation, the civil war, the Taliban and
now the Coalition Forces.

In 2002, Dr. Chamberlin purchased tools and mining equipment
for the people of Ghaziabad. The mining and the jewelry making
have become industries upon which the villagers can build and
sustain a vastly improved way of life. Through the sale of the jewelry, she sponsors schools, teacher training, healthcare,
and reforestation and irrigation programs.

Dr. Chamberlin will talk on her work in Afghanistan
and her wonderful jewelry will be for sale.

It has been a very tough week for San Diegans. While the fires are nearing containment the impact will be felt for a long time to come. It is our sincere hope that you are all safe in these difficult times. If you would like to volunteer to assist the victims of the fires then you may contact either the San Diego County Democratic Party or Volunteer San Diego.

Additionally, we have one more large street fair this year and volunteers are needed to register voters. We ask that you work for two hours at a time of your choosing. These are the details. Thank you for your assistance.

Doesn't cost a penny. Now that the fires have calmed down, hoping that you are all well, here's something else to think about. I've taken the challenge and challenge you to help the very poor get solar light bulbs (costs about $2/year) as opposed to their spending huge sums of their limited annual income on kerosene!

The Hinkle Charitable Foundation (HCF), which advocates for environmental and musical education, has issued the Pure Waste Challenge to motivate people to commit to reducing their carbon footprint. For each and every person who reads three short but very informative primers on saving energy and commits to taking action, the Hinkle Charitable Foundation will donate $100 to SELF (solar electric light fund), up to the first 1000 responders.

Please visit the Hinkle Charitable Foundation website at and learn how you can save energy while also helping SELF to bring carbon-free solar power to the developing world.

The Pure Waste Challenge:
Minimal changes producing a great impact.

Thanks, Alicia

Tired of hearing why Progressives and Liberals hate America? How about some facts showing why Republicans really do hate Americans (or actually any non-contributor millionaires or corporations)? This is a very short video from
Some good sites for progressive info:
On cable:
Countdown with Keith Olbermann-MSNBC, 5 pm and 9 pm PST or at
And of course, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, both on the Comedy Channel and at

And I am attaching a PDF file (safe to open, if you have dial-up it might take a bit longer) compiled by Gary Johnson about losing local progressive radio (which is happening in San Diego, and throughout the country).

The FCC and the media will try to keep us distracted with movie stars and rehab, lapel pins that aren't worn and other such nonsense. Keep abreast of the issues and please pass this on.

A very important link that makes it pretty easy to find out what's happening to our country and the world. Unfortunately, right now it's only on the internet (since we can't get it on any of the major networks or most newspapers): has in-depth interviews, conference coverage, daily news, major happenings around the world and more. You will need a high speed internet connection to access it properly. Here our some worthwhile videos to type into the search area:

Iraq veterans against the war: It's over an hour, but worth the view.

Mainstream media dead. It's a 21 minute lecture in Canada on U.S. media.

Check out Aug 31, 200 interviews -it's the Blackwater story (it's the second
story-not including the Bush satire). It's really important to check this out; note that Blackwater has plans for a "camp" in San Diego county!

Please pass this on. is important and urgently needed and we need to support it!

Thanks. Alicia
