Anyone who knows me knows my views on the Bush administration: It should
never have happened. The nation has been plunging into an abyss ever since that
grim miscarriage in 2000. I'm not sure we'll ever recover.
I don't think much of Feinstein. She's not in the Democratic wing of the
Democratic party. But her reason for approving Mukasey makes sense against the
Byzantine state of affairs in Washington. If this nominee isn't sworn in than
they'll leave the slot open and commit atrocities for which no one is
answerable. It's a sad state of affairs.
There was a time when I'd recommend Niccolo Machiavelli to
anyone studying American politics. Now, the best basic manual is Lewis
Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass." Yes, the antics of the Ugly Duchess, the
Mad Hatter and the March Hare are more deadly on the world stage.
If we can censure Feinstein and impeach Bush without diverting our
attention from winning the White House and increasing our numbers in Congress we
should do that. And let's not be lulled to sleep by the current status of the
war in the Middle East.
But let's not forget the urgent battles that lie just over the horizon. The
Republicans are filling up their slime buckets in preparation for the 2008
campaign. Look what the corrupt Sanders administration is doing to
Mike Aguirre. It's Swift boat all over again.
It will take intense concentration and super-human strength to turn back
the forces that are destroying the country.
