#23 organizer, Pam Hoye.

With a heavy heart we report that Elizabeth (Betty) Beacon passed away
this weekend. She had been battling cancer for several months. A
celebration of Betty's life will be held sometime in the future.
Information will be shared as it becomes known.

Francie Moeller, of the State Democratic Party Disability Caucus,

"In this loss, the community lost not just a leader for disabled but
for the many students who were inspired by this wonderful woman every

"Anyone who had a chance to spend time with Betty can attest to the
treat a conversation with her was. She challenged your thinking to new
levels, her knowledge of history was wonderful and will truly be a
loss to us all. Her friendship was one to be honored, and will be
greatly missed. Her ardent leadership and community representation
will be greatly missed by all of us."

While a profound loss is being felt within the disabled community,
Betty's influence, resting on her deep respect for all persons, went
far beyond identification with any one group. Her keen insights and
unstinting fairness will be missed by all who had the privilege to
work with her. Betty helped everyone to see and share in possibility.

As she was known to many, not only here in San Diego but throughout
California and elsewhere, her friends ask that anyone knowing her
please share the news of her passing.
