***THUR OCT 6 at 7-9PM Fallbrook Democratic Club Meeting Our speaker will be Robert Rider, PhD, Professor of Economics at CSUSM. He is a graduate of UC Berkeley and received his PhD from USC and has been teaching at CSUSM for nineteen years. He has been Dept. Chair of the Economics Dept. for five years. Dr. Rider has published in the areas of public choice, economic theory of conflict and sports econ. His work is theoretical and employs game theory. His current interests are in the area of sports economics, economics of conflict and war and applied game theory. Past positions he has held at the university include: interium Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and General Education Director. Being one of the first faculty in the seminal years of the University, he helped to develop a number of organizational structures on the campus, including the design if the New Social and Behavioral Sciences Bldg. that just opened in the fall of 2011. His talk will address the macro economy of the US, entitled "Maybe this time is different?" He will provide an overall summary of where the US economy is currently and how it got there; summarie the policy (monetary and fiscal responses to the Great Recession, with some comparison to a similar debt crisis that the US experienced (the Great Depression);identify the challenges that the US faces in the years ahead as we try to return to more normal economic times.
