***FRI OCT 28 at 9AM-12PM " SANDAG Regional Transportation Plan Committee VOTE TO APPROVE e the $217 Billion Plan Meeting" We want to be there to tell them their work is not yet done. We need your help with, the Regional Transportation Plan. As you may recall, getting a plan that complies with state emissions requirements was our first demand – because transportation produces a whopping 46% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in San Diego County. That’s where you come in. We want to fill the room with San Diego County residents to say “You must comply with California’s climate change regulations and you must act in the best interest of your constituents”. We’ll have talking points available shortly. SANDAG (the group of SD County Mayors & Supervisors that controls the $ and the plan), has ignored most comments and requests from environmentalists, transportation experts and most recently the Attorney General’s office calling on them to revise the plan to comply with the GHG reduction requirements required by the state. We have three main goals: 1) we want to make sure that when SANDAG flouts California’s GHG standards and goals that we call them out on it (we can get press attention if we have a good # of people there); 2) we want to support the attorney general’s efforts to bring the RTP for San Diego County into compliance; 3) we want to ratchet up the debate for future updates of the plan. WHERE: SANDAG’s offices by City Hall (SANDAG Board Room 401 B Street, 7th Floor). Please put it on your calendar and let us know if you can be there Contact Masada Disenhouse :[masked] or email: [address removed] – we need to know how many signs to make).

***MON NOV 14 (Doors Open at 6:30PM) EVENT starts at 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM * Revelle Forum Speaker is * Stanford Law School PROFESSOR RICHARD THOMPSON FORD * HIS TOPIC: Is the blowback from America's legislative approach to ending racism actually fostering more racism? In his bombshell expose, " The Race Card ",
Richard Thompson Ford, Professor at Stanford Law School and widely acknowledged as one of the most insightful writers on race relations and legal issues in America today, showed the effect of civil rights laws on real and perceived racist acts. Now he offers a new, provocative critique of those important laws in Rights Gone Wrong: How Law Corrupts the Struggle for Equality, showing how they often fail us. Ford argues that equal rights laws are effective in addressing overt racism, but do little to address pressing social problems such as segregation and employment disparity. Ford's analysis is entertaining, humorous, unapologetic, and likely to draw praise and ire from both ends of the political spectrum. Doors open at 6:30 Note: Advance registration advised.
