Carol it's me again

I  really need help with this particular fundraiser for my campaign for the 79th Assembly because apparently, candidates in the race who are "allies" of the LGBT community have garnered so much support that I have to wait until after March to get help from key members of the LGBT and other communities- at least that's what people are telling me on the phone over and over again. I happen to believe that you can’t have a stronger ally to the LGBT community than “one of our own,” like myself for whom LGBT equality is not an option, it’s a requirement.

I'd like this to be a successful event because I am at a critical juncture in my fundraising before the next reporting deadline. As you may be aware, March 1st is the next critical fundraising deadline and quite frankly, putting off helping me until March is tantamount to not helping me at all.

In addition, Gary and Dan, who only talked with me over a couple of days on a Democratic cruise-- are willing to come to San Diego and campaign for me on their own dime. Partially because they are still experiencing various kinds of discrimination in the military and know that a lot of work still has to be done to really get this right and have unconditional marriage equality. They are paying their own costs for travel, hotel, everything. It would mean a lot to me if these two new friends saw that I have some old friends in my corner.

Please remember, the two top vote-getters will go forward to the General Election. I will be one of them with your help.

Lt. Gary Ross and Dan Ross, first gay couple to wed in the military, & Jimmy Slaff-Gruel and Carl Gruel, first gay couple to wed in Chula Vista, are hosting a  reception in support of my campaign for California State Assembly District 79.
The reception will be held on Feb. 19th from 4pm-6pm, Queen’s Bee Art and Cultural Center, 3925 Ohio Street, San Diego, CA 92104. RSVP:
[address removed] or (619) 582-5383.

I am truly hoping you will be on the host committee for me for this reception. Host levels are $1,000, $500, $250, and $100.

o Even if you cannot serve on the host committee or cannot attend this event, I need your support and contribution to this fundraiser for my campaign for the 79th Assembly District. Checks should be mailed to Pat Washington for Assembly 2012, P. O. Box 15968, San Diego, CA 92175. If it's easier than mailing a check, please just go online to ACTBLUE ( and note that's it's for the Feb. 19th fundraiser for me.

I firmly believe that the very best ally in the California legislature for all our families and for all of our communities is someone for whom LGBT equality will never be optional or expedient. That someone is me.

o If you’d like to talk with me about this signature event for my campaign and other ways you can help, please give me a call at (619) 582-5383.

o Lastly, do you have some family photos to share with us that we can use in the PowerPoint for this event? We want to showcase all of our families and remind everyone that families come in all forms. All families matter. All families deserve equality and respect.

o Thanks, Pat Washington, Candidate for the 79th Assembly District
