Dear Fellow DFAers,
Initially, trying to identify an endorsement process that is both fair
and in keeping with the open nature of our DFA meetings seemed
challenging. What came to mind is a need for creating an organization
with bylaws. Perhaps SD DFA may decide to become a formal organization
at some point in the future.
However, after considering various suggestions it seemed that what we
really needed were some basic guidelines. Our goal has been to give a
voice to the variety of perspectives held by DFAers, while trying to
ensure that those making the decision to endorse (and the candidates
themselves) show an interest in SD DFA and DFA values. We expect to
email the endorsement procedure to you all within the coming weeks. It
will also be posted on the internet. Once the proposed guidelines are
sent out we will welcome your feedback. :)
While it may take a month or so to have these guidelines up and
running, at our July meeting we are introducing a Master Attendance
Sheet for members to sign-in at the monthly meeting. A few months ago
we decided as a group to identify "voting members" through a recorded
attendance. By showing an entire year at a glance, we think the
Master Attendance Sheet will make tracking attendance quick and easy.
As a final note it is possible Mike Aguirre will request SD DFA
endorsement for City Attorney at our July meeting. As he has spoken to
SD DFA on several occasions, we will have paper ballots available
should the group decide to consider this request at the meeting.
Judy Ki is thinking of withdrawning her Farm Animal Rights prop
endorsement request until our SD DFA endorsement guidelines are in
place. Meanwhile, she has some historical news to tell share !
