By turning their back on the pump, these vehicles are a huge step toward moving America beyond oil and cutting pollution. A switch to EVs is an important part of our economic future, and an important solution to climate disruption. Every year, we burn roughly 121 billion gallons of oil in our passenger cars and trucks -- and even after taking into account the electricity used to charge EVs, these are almost always the cleanest cars around, and are getting even cleaner. And to fuel an EV, you'll pay the equivalent of 75 cents per gallon of gas, and next to nothing in maintenance. The event will include: EV display vehicles, charging infrastructure spotlights, press conferences, EV presentations, informational tables, opportunities to learn from your neighbors about what it's like to be an EV owner and more. Lunch will be provided for registered guests. On the 23rd, Sierra Club supporters in over 60 cities across the country will be taking part in free events to check out electric vehicles, have fun, and help the climate. RSVP now to join us in San Diego next Sunday for National Plug In Day. Even if you don't plan to purchase a new car for years, this is a great chance to have fun and learn more about important climate solutions. http://events.pluginday.org/p/salsa/event/common/public/index.sjs?event_KEY=67980 *Where: California Center for Sustainable Energy 8690 Balboa Ave., Suite 100 San Diego, CA 92123

***THUR SEPT 27 at 5:30 PM - 7:30PM " PLANNED PARENTHOOD'S 21st ANNUAL Stand Down ACTION FUND PARTY with STATE SENATOR CHRISTINE KEHOE in La Jolla" Elections don’t get more critical than this. In fact, the upcoming local and national elections are more important to the Future of Planned Parenthood than any other election in recent history. This is our best opportunity to raise funds as we enter the last leg of the 2012 election year. With longtime Planned Parenthood Champion Senator Christine Kehoe as our featured speaker, we’re in for an inspirational and energizing evening. We hope you’ll join us – we need every ounce of support we can get to ensure no one will “get rid of” Planned Parenthood.... Planned Parenthood, we’re going to get rid of that.” - Mitt Romney BUY TICKETS TODAY! www.ppactionca.org/standnow From local races to the battle for the presidency, support for Planned Parenthood and the reproductive health services it provides have become deciding factors. Many candidates, including Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, have publicly stated they intend to eliminate all funding for Planned Parenthood, even though most Americans believe providing reproductive health care is vital for our country’s future and should remain nonpartisan. In fact, not only has 1 in 5 American women sought reproductive health care from Planned Parenthood at least once in her lifetime, 69% of Americans oppose cutting federal government funding to Planned Parenthood. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest will commit its resources to elect candidates who will preserve the right to reproductive health care. To contribute to the event at the Honorary Committee level – $1,000 or more – or to purchase individual tickets online, please visit www.ppactionca.org/standnow today! Online Voter Registration Now Available in California
For the first time ever, voters in our state can now register completely online -- no paper form needed. Californians whose current addresses match the address they have on file with the DMV can register (or reregister) at www.sandiegovotes.org. About 70% of people eligible to vote in San Diego County are still not registered. The deadline is coming up in just over a month, on October 22, so please share that website widely and make sure everyone you know is signed up! Especially in this presidential election year, new registrants and first-time voters are a key part of the Democratic electorate.
Volunteer to Sign Up New Voters -- Deadline in Just One Month!
Over the next four weeks, we have a chance to ensure that San Diego solidifies our status as a "blue" county by registering thousands of Democrats. We just need volunteers to staff our Democratic Party booths at upcoming events to reach out to potential voters and get them on the rolls. Will you join us? Those opportunities include naturalization ceremonies in Chula Vista and downtown, Adams Ave. Street Fair on Sept. 29-30, the Little Italy Festa on Oct. 14, and campus-based activities at SDSU, UCSD, and USD. You can sign up at www.sddemocrats.org/bluecounty or call us at (858) 277-3367.
Spread the Word About This Election Through Social Media
A study published last week by a UCSD professor found that one Election Day message sent in 2010 got at least 300,000 additional people to vote. Social media, including Facebook, will be even more important in informing and mobilizing voters this year -- and you can help. First, please "like" us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. And in the coming weeks, we urge you to share and retweet the County Democratic Party's messages and add some of your own! Just by letting your friends know that you're volunteering, donating, or voting to support Democrats, you'll be motivating them to get engaged too.
Occupy San Diego will be celebrating its one year anniversary the weekend of October 6th and 7th, which will also mark the eleventh anniversary of the war in Afghanistan.
Please come on down and take part in the planning for the commemoration of our first year in San Diego. There are lots of ideas on the table but there's always room for more! No voice is unimportant in our activist community!
Our next planning meeting will be this Wednesday, September 26th at 6 PM at Children's Park. Come on down!
Occupy San Diego's official website covers all things OSD, with forums, links, a regularly updated events calendar and more at sandiegooccupy.org/

*157 new citizens registered!
*Voter Registration Events
*Online voter registration available in CA
Reply-To: [address removed]
Greetings, Congratulations to the numerous volunteers who helped out at the Naturalization Ceremony yesterday. We registered 157 new citizens to vote! There were 131 Democrats
There is some exciting news from the Secretary of State. Online voter registration is now available in California. If you or anyone you know needs to get registered please send them the following link.
The way the system works is to pull your signature from the DMV, so your registration name and address must match your drivers license. If it does it can be completed online and it will state that at the end. If not it will inform the applicant to, "Print, sign and mail" the form to the Registrar.
Additionally, registered voters in San Diego County can now check the status of their registration and mail ballot. If you have voted a mail ballot you can track and confirm when your mail ballot was mailed and then received by the Registrar Of Voters Office. (For the upcoming election) If you voted a provisional ballot you can check to see if your ballot was accepted or rejected. (Please allow 2 to 3 weeks after election day before checking the status of your provisional ballot.) Here is the link: http://www2.sdcounty.ca.gov/rov/Eng/Evoter_query.asp
The next event scheduled is the:
Adams Avenue Street Fair next weekend. The booth location has not been assigned, but I am creating a list of volunteers for voter registration. A notification to volunteers who rsvp will be sent when the information becomes available. We will begin voter registration on campus in October at UCSD and SDSU. Thanks for your continued support! Greg Adams Avenue Street Fair - Normal Heights Saturday and Sunday, September 29 and 30 10am - 4pm Mark your calendars!
