2. Ryan Hurd, Our Executive Director, SDCDP ([address removed]) TODAY! ***Friday: November 2, 11:00 a.m. Meet California's "First Dog" He's a celebrity in the State Capitol. He's cuter than your average politician. And he's hitting the campaign trail in San Diego to support Proposition 30. You're invited to our Democratic Unity office tomorrow to make get-out-the-vote phone calls and meet California's "First Dog," Sutter. Governor Jerry Brown has been the leading proponent of Prop. 30, which would prevent deep cuts to education in California. Polls show that voters are evenly split on the measure, so its passage will depend on our volunteer efforts in the next five days. While Sutter Brown isn't eligible to vote, the friendly Welsh corgi has been a big cheerleader for the Governor's plan throughout the state. Please join us to meet him and make phone calls to local voters: WHEN: Friday, November 2, 11:00 a.m. WHERE: Democratic Unity Office, 8322 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., #202 Please reply to this email or call (858)[masked] to let us know you're coming. And feel free to invite friends and family and spread the word through your Facebook and Twitter pages. We're in the tail end of this election now, so thanks for your support! Truly, Ryan Hurd Executive Director San Diego County Democratic Party P.S.: To keep our focus on the making calls for Prop. 30, we do ask that you leave your cherished canine companions at home for this event. 3.  ***FROM SDCDP HQ'S THE TURF REPORT *** GO TEAM *** ANNOUNCEMENT***

UPDATED• TURF REPORT:

Dear GO Team Members --

This weekend is our last chance to reach voters at home and make sure that they have the full slate. We have great options for GO Teamers to be involved from from just a few minutes to as many hours as you like. You can do one, two or all three options. Whichever you choose, your experienced help is going to be a vital part of the GO Team and Get-Out-the-Vote programs and will make a difference on Election Day. GO Team options are:

OPTION 1: HELP WHERE YOU ARE NEEDED MOST
Please sign up to work as many Coordinated Campaign shifts as you are able to -- this will have the broadest impact of the options. Our coordinated campaigns are in the areas where we have the tightest races and will help ensure that our endorsed Democrats win on Tuesday. Go to www.sddemocrats.org/goteam to pick from coordinated campaign locations all over the county. If you want to walk precincts, the staging locations are in: Kearny Mesa, Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Encinitas, Esconddio, La Mesa, Mira Mesa, and Solana Beach. If you want to make calls, there are phone bank locations are: Kearny Mesa, Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Escondido, La Mesa, Pacific Beach and Solana Beach.

◊ OPTION 2: WORKING YOUR GOT TEAM PRECINCT? GET A NEW LIST!

If you are working your GOTeam precinct please get a new list to make sure you have the most current and updated information -- we had another update the lists just this morning. Also, the GOTV format and script are different from what we used for Voter ID. The list has only the voters who most need to hear from you on it and the script includes the best practices for getting occasional voters to the polls. To get your updated GOTV list, contact your GO Team Coordinator(s), Marcia Bookstein, at (858)[masked] or [address removed].

OPTION 3: MAKE SOME CALLS AND EMAILS FROM HOME
Our online campaign center makes it easy to reach out to voters from home. You can make just a few calls or make dozens of them. The voters in these lists are newly registered voters who are eager to vote for the President and need encouragement to vote "down the ticket". Click here to get started -- you can create a login for yourself or use Facebook to login.

Questions? Comments? Ideas? Email or call us at (858) 277-3367. Thanks for doing your part for our democracy!

Please sign up for call-shifts to get out the vote for Dems! ◊ These calls work -- and research proves it. Putting volunteers directly in touch with voters is one of the two most powerful ways to earn support and get voters to the polls. (The other is knocking doors.) We can win this election with people power -- and we will win it if you make calls with us. Make calls to voters this weekend. Can't make calls? Contribute $6 to the DFA GOTV Fund. ***SUN NOV 4 at 10:00AM   JOHN LEE EVANS, Candidate for School Board ~ DOING A FINAL LIT DROP ON SUNDAY in CLAIREMONT We're doing a final lit drop push on Sunday in Clairemont. Bring a friend/relative/colleague to make the walk fun and fast. Maybe some fellow Unitarians would like to join you/us. Zack, our precinct guru, makes it easy as essentially the walk goes up one street and down the other. All designated houses are 'friendlies' meaning they're Dems who consistently vote the ticket. In this race, name recognition is a huge factor and just knowing that JLE is a Democrat often encourages people to vote for school board rather than leaving the slot blank. We're meeting at Starbucks (4227 Genesee) at 10 a.m. on Sunday. I'll even treat you to your favorite drink. How can you turn that down? Let me know. Carol Carol A. ***MON NOV 5 at 12:00PM/NOON LUNCHEON with the City Club of San Diego presents a program that brings together two great friends, RABBI MICHAEL STERNFIELD & REVEREND MARK TOTTER ! They will have a conversation in dialogue on: "Overcoming Barriers of Misunderstanding." Rabbi Sternfield, now at Chicago's Sinai Congregation, one of America's most influential Jewish synagogues, was formerly Rabbi at Temple Beth in San Diego. Reverend Mark Trotter was for 24 years the Senior Minister at First United Methodist Church of San Diego, Methodism's largest congregation in the west. The two men started what has become a tradition, Temple Beth and First Methodist joining in worship on Thanksgiving eve, alternating between both houses of worship. I am confident, knowing both men as I do, that this will be a special occasion, and I bid you join us. The cost for the 12-Noon luncheon is $20 for members and LJCDS parents, $30 to non-members. *******VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM  ANNE HOIBERG ********

★ Women: Vote for President Barack Obama! Anne Hoiberg ★

For the sake of all girls and women, vote for President Barack Obama.

The one issue widening the wedge between Democrats and Republicans in this presidential election is that of women’s rights. As the gap expands, we are subjected to increasingly more ignorant remarks about rape and abortion, the funding of contraception, and the need for special counseling and testing for pregnant girls and women weighing whether or not to have an abortion. Also divisive is the blocking of legislation addressing violence against women as well as equal pay, which fosters a virulent form of sexism in this country. On the basis of these current indicators, we can only predict that the situation for women would worsen under a Romney Administration.

Would an elected Mitt Romney uphold our democratic values of equality and inclusivity or would we expect a further erosion of women’s rights and opportunities? Particularly problematic for women, especially those of us who are single, lesbian, widowed, or divorced, is our expected role in the U.S. as spelled out by the 2012 Republican Party Platform: “The institution of marriage is the foundation of civil society. Its success as an institution will determine our success as a nation. . . . we believe that marriage, the union of one man and one woman must be upheld as the national standard, a goal to stand for, encourage, and promote through laws governing marriage.”

Another alarming belief centers on the role of women in the Mormon faith. Added to the Republican’s national standard promoting marriage is the Mormon tenet that the most important goal for a girl is "to marry the right person, in the right place, by the right authority." Mormon girls also must be chaste until marriage, thereby making them worth marrying. Being married and bearing many children are the noblest of endeavors for girls. Of all U.S. states, Utah has the highest percentage of children less than 18 years of age, 31.5%. Because Utahan girls marry young, the lowest median age in the country, and do not complete a college education, the wage gap in Utah is the largest in the nation, with women earning 55 cents for every dollar a man makes (American Community Survey in Slate.com).

Although Mormon marriages are sealed in heaven to last an eternity, divorces do occur, but obtaining a church divorce is a complicated pursuit. After appealing to male church authorities, a couple may be granted a church divorce, which would break the sealed celestial marriage and free the couple. The LDS Church and the Mormon family are patriarchal and hierarchal institutions, placing women in a subordinate position to men. Only boys and men can become priests; male bishops and stake presidents lead the local churches, which were positions held by Mitt Romney when he lived in Massachusetts. What role would single, lesbian, widowed, or divorced women have in the U.S. under a Romney Administration? Would we anomalies be ostracized or considered unworthy of respect and dignity? Women are to marry and have children, leaving the work place to men.

For the sake of all girls and women, vote for President Barack Obama. Anne 's email: [address removed] Please share, if you wish! Reply To: [address removed], [address removed]
