Re: [dfa-23] Hi! I Love Heated Discussions! Regarding to the Topic of Bob Filner Crisis, I want everyone to speak and write their views freely. Just be careful of the words you write in regards to someone's view. An example is below. OKAY? ~ NOW ~

Thanks Joanne, you helped me come to a final decision on Mayor Filner. He must resign. He must not allow his fatally flawed administration to become a springboard for the Republicans to retake the Mayor's office by allowing a politically-motivated recall effort to go forward. And he must do this to honor his political claim to be a man of and for the people of San Diego (which, in spite of any other character failures, I believe to be true).
Others may differ from this opinion, and that is a good thing. It took me a while to come to mine.
"Those who desire to suppress it (others' opinion) of course deny its truth; but they are not infallible.... To refuse a hearing to an opinion, because they are sure that it is false, is to assume that their certainty is the same thing as absolute certainty. All silencing of discussion is an assumption of infallibility." - John Stuart Mills

Mayor Filner needs to leave office as in "Resign" as soon as possible. This isn't a case of consenting behavior between adults. Filner has been inappropriate (to say the least) with at last count 14 women who have come forward thus far. That Sexual Harassment is a civil issue and not a criminal issue doesn't change the despicable actions of Filner. He is a hypocrite masquerading as a defender Women's Rights while he hit on 7 to 8 women who were survivors of assault in the Military at an event designed to empower these women. I believe only 2 of these women have come forward so far but these women know more women were harassed at the same event by Filner or subsequent to the event. Filner is not denying any of the charges by any of the women who have come forward. Filner is not saying he is innocent. Filner has admitted his egregious behavior and then checked himself into rehab. Filner knows he has committed these actions. Filner is the one who threw himself under the bus. I find his behavior deeply disturbing and I am saddened to find someone I hoped would lead San Diego forward in a positive new direction to be responsible for a Sexual Harassment Scandal. San Diego Democrats need to lead the charge to get Filner out NOW. San Diego Democrats need to stand up for our principles. We need to stand against the Sexual Harassment of Women where ever and whenever this occurs regardless of political party affiliation. There cannot be any exceptions just because Filner is the "Democratic" Mayor.  This isn't because Filner is a Democrat. It is because this behavior is intolerable whether the Mayor was a Democrat or a Republican. Any San Diego Mayor involved in this malaise should be removed from office.
Half of the staff in the mayor's office have left. Filner isn't showing up for City events. Filner has no support on the City Council. We have a Mayor who cannot govern. San Diego needs a Mayor. Filner will receive his due process. However this isn't a question of whether or not the civil charges with prevail, but just how much will civil award will be. The best move Filner can make is to negotiate a deal with the City Attorney to minimize his legal expenses and offer his resignation. Then we can move forward through the legal process, the Temp Mayor position, select candidates, have an election and a newly elected Mayor. And yes I hope the new Mayor is a Democrat.

Just be careful of the words you write in regards to someone's view. An example is below. OKAY? ~ NOW ~ LET'S VERBALLY RUMBLE! Thanks Bunches, Carol

An Example:

When I have tried to speak about in support Bob Filner not resigning, I have been HIT with the label of being " a Hypocrite "!
The first time this was said to me, it really surprised me and puzzled me.  I feel I should be able to state my opinions without being called a hypocrite.
This kind of name calling is a tactic, I do not agree with when discussing the Bob Filner Crisis.
Calling someone a hypocrite, stop the discussion altogether.
Maybe, that, is/was, why it is said.

I want to be able to state my opinions, statements, without having to stop the main topic of discussion, to defend myself from being called a hypocrite.
Hypocrite has been stated by several of my progressive & democratic friends or members, I feel that I must speak up.
Accusing someone of being a hypocrite, should require more thought and evidence, than just speaking about not wanting Bob to resign.
I am not big on name calling, and/or,  make such judgments of friends and people I might disagree with...    I say ' might' because my mind is not make up.

To me, to ask someone to resign is a big decision.
Those that have come on quickly, have had enough time and evidence for them to come to this decision.  I haven't.  That is all.
Many who, first asked for his resignation, have had more time, and more evidence, and more information.
I have not had the privilege to see or hear or decide.  I respect their decision.
There are a lot of consequences to demanding someone to resign.  Not the least of these, is having Todd Gloria being Mayor temporarily, is one of my concerns.
Think about it...

From another Dem Member:
Anyway, that is not the issue here.  The issue is the campaign to remove Mayor Filner.  If that happens, who should we be working for to replace him, etc? The “Divide and Conquer” tactics of Atwater and Rove should have no place in our gatherings.  We need to unite, not reduce ourselves to childish bickering, with the playground name-calling and the like.  This weakens our party and our vision. No doubt setting us up to fight among ourselves was a desired side effect of this fiasco.  Let’s not fall into that trap, but use our time and energy for positive good.
