Hi Sari,

While you are correct, this is but one of hundreds of bad policies that will plague us once Todd Gloria and the BIA henchmen get into power.

My main fear is that without Filner, the Jacobs Plan will get rammed through.   Am I being too paranoid to think that Todd Gloria will become our next Mayor--I shudder--because he will find a way to do this (or someone else becoming Mayor will).

For some reason, the Universe or aol has blocked my replies to these comments for the past few days. Perhaps that is for the best. But I am going to try once more to express my thoughts. I think this situation is totally INSANE. You have all but handed the City of San Diego to the Building Industry Association and all their insidious lobbyists. I am appalled that Donna Frye had a role in this handover to Todd Gloria and Michael Palamary.

Do you have any idea who this guy is????? Do you really think he cares a whit about the women wronged by Bob Filner? These guys are gearing up for the land development season to open up when the banks get loose again. They are going to lay waste to our neighborhoods with high density hotels (yes, the hotel industry too). Did you know there is a bill in the Assembly to allow cities to use inverse condemnation WITHOUT the need for blighted conditions? Who do you think sponsored that bill????

Mike,

I’m glad you mentioned you believe in due process as that is at the foundation of our country and what all Democrats should support.

I hope Filner’s attorney will also address the issue of proportionality.  The same Republicans who gave Vitter a standing ovation when he returned from his legal problems involving prostitution, voted for the camper on the Appalachian Trail, idolize Schwarzenegger, etc. are now on the bandwagon against Filner for what appears to be crude and inappropriate behavior, rather than criminal conduct.

When we insist on a double standard for the people who fight for progressive issues, we are unilaterally disarming.  That is why the Republicans have been so successful in moving this country to the right since the 1970’s.  They take the long-term, strategic view and don’t throw their champions under the bus.

John Mattes & DFA San Diego,

I saw the Filner news (nationwide) up here in Port Angeles, WA, where I live with my sister and my nephews, 4 & 6.

I believe in due process for the accusations of sexual harassment -- and having said that, I think Bob Filner has nearly destroyed, effectively, his mayorship. He did it to himself, apparently, through his own behavior and choices. This has consequences for the future leadership of San Diego.

Post Filner mayoral office planning? Following what John said, it seems sensible to adhere to a issues-first focus.  What are the key issue/s?  Choose one or two and rally. Any future candidates will need to take those issues into account.

PAST: Filner has a storied history as a Freedom Rider, as a city councilman, and a tough congressman who voted a solidly progressive line, and had often ALREADY CO-SPONSORED legislation like HR 676 Single Payer health care even before PDA members called him to do so. WONDERFUL!

PRESENT: I am bitter regarding Mayor Filner. Many of us spent much time and effort spent last April & May (and again in Sept/Oct) in phoning, organizing phone banks for Filner (as many of the community did) feels wasted. Whether he stays, he resigns, I'm no longer taking his calls. Onwards!

We don't know exactly when our mayor may be leaving office. But, we need to be ready to keep Progressive ideals and causes from leaving with him.

The time is now to move the conversation from what it is to what it should be. Now let's start a  discussion of which Progressive candidate should be mayor rather than which Republican or which corporate Democrat should run.
The Race has to be about respect
. Respect for women
• Respect for workers
• Respect for taxpayers

After much discussion , we concluded that Donna Frye or Lori Saldana are the kind of leaders we need as our next mayor and they have more of a chance of winning a special election than most others likely to run.

Join us in a draft Donna Frye for Mayor and draft Lori Saldana for Mayor banner waving!
