2. Saturday, August 18, 2007 from 11am-8pm.

San Diegans Invited to Have Conversations with Elected Leaders at Encanto Street Fair
San Diego, CA. The San Diego Democratic Women?s Club will serve as the host for several elected leaders and candidates during the Encanto Street Fair on Saturday, August 18, 2007 from 11am-8pm.
SDDWC President Pat Washington said ?Our club is eager to serve the San Diego Democratic County Party by tabling at the Encanto Street Fair and providing Festival attendees with useful elections materials. But, we also wanted to provide Festival goers with a convenient opportunity to meet with elected leaders and others.? Website for the Encanto Street Fair: encantostreetfair.com.

Arranging for conversations with elected leaders offers the club a chance to bring political leaders and Festival goers together at a specific time and place. Washington added, ?Often, work-or family-- demands make it difficult for the typical resident to visit public officials in their District offices. Having elected leaders set aside a specific hour to meet with constituents at the Encanto Street Fair?which is free and open to the public-- is a good way to bring elected leaders and the voting public together.?

A partial list of elected leaders or candidates for office who will spend an hour or two at the San Diego County Democratic Party booth with the San Diego Democratic Women?s Club members includes Hon. Shelia Jackson, Vice President, San Diego Unified School Board, District E and Pat Moriarty, Candidate, 4th Seat Chula Vista City Council (11:00-Noon); Trustee Arlie Ricasa, President Sweetwater School Board (Noon-1:00pm); 1:00pm-2:00pm?Congressman Bob Filner, California's 51st District (1:00pm-2:00pm); Assemblymember Mary Salas, 79th Assembly District (1:30pm-2:30pm);Todd Gloria, Candidate, San Diego City Council, District 3 (2pm-4pm). Admission to the Encanto Street Fair is free to the public.

The San Diego Democratic Women?s Club meets the fourth Saturday of each month from 10am until Noon. More information is available at the club?s website: http://thesandiegodemocraticwomensclub.org/.

Hi, Carol,

I just signed an online petition requesting DFA to provide a write-in option to vote for Al Gore in its current straw poll.

If you would be interested in offering the membership of the San Diego chapter of DFA the opportunity to sign the same petition, please forward them the following link:

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/al-gore-dfa-poll/

Also, in case Roy Gayhart has not had the time yet to keep you abreast of the latest developments in our campaign to draft Al Gore, I'd like to let you and your members know that Californians who want [b]Al Gore to run for President in 2008 have launched a grassroots campaign to put Al Gore on the California Primary Ballot. We have formed a PAC entitled California Draft Gore and created a new website where all details of our campaign can be found. http://www.california4gore.org/. Please share this information with anyone you think might be interested.

Thanks for all your past kindnesses and for all that you do,

Event Description: You are invited to participate in a one-day Nonviolence Conflict Intervention (NCI) Training, 8 September 2007 offered by Nonviolent Peaceforce San Diego.

Cost: Workshop Fee Sliding scale $15.00 to $75.00
RSVP: Space is limited. Pre-register by contacting Debby Park,[masked], [address removed]

We invite YOU to Take One Practical Step Toward a Less Violent World

LEARN HOW.........
The Nonviolent Conflict Intervention Training lets you explore how nonviolent methods can lessen or prevent onflict-in your daily life, in your community, and around the world.

The one-day workshop is filled with hands-on exercises and role plays that will introduce you to:
Basic nonviolent communication and conflict resolution methods
How you can use these skills when you come across conflict in your daily life
How local and international peace teams use nonviolent strategies in larger conflicts

The curriculum was developed by Nonviolent Peaceforce North America. Your trainers are professional nonviolent conflict intervention trainers.

TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.........
We believe tht basic training in Nonviolent Conflict Intervention (NCI) should be as common as training in CPR. If someone has a heart attack, CPR can keep that person alive until the underlying cause of the attack can be addressed.

NCI allows an individual, a relationship or a community to survive without physical or emotional injury until the underlying cause of the conflict can be resolved.

This workshop will introduce techniques you can use when faced with a conflict that might turn nasty or violent. By defusing the immediate situation, you create a space which gives everyone time to understand the root of the conflict and to resolve it in a peaceful way.

BEGIN NOW........
The Nonviolent Conflict Intervention Training is open to everyone. The sliding scale cost for the workshop is $15-75. The workshop fee covers site expenses, training materials, printing, and snacks. An additioinal $5.00 pays for a vegetarian lunch. Participants may also bring their own bag lunch. Any money left over will be donated to Nonviolent Peaceforce to support the expansion of training programs.
The training is a full day. We ask that participants commit to staying the entire day.

Space is limited. Please RSVP to register for the September 8, 2007 workshop, please contact Debby Park,[masked] or [address removed]. Also, contact Debby to be put on a list to receive information about future trainings to be scheduled.
Send check for payment to Ed Flowers, Treasurer, Nonviolent Peaceforce, 2214 Erie St., San Diego, CA, 92110-3301.
