*** SUNDAY MARCH 30 at NOON " LUNCH at LEANNE"S HOUSE for SARAH BOOT & CAROL KIM " Leanne Hull Fine Art <[address removed]> Your are invited to my house for lunch to meet them and ask them questions. These two outstanding candidates are Sarah Boot and Carol Kim. They are running in District 2 (Sarah Boot) and District 6 (Carol Kim).
Since it is so important for us to have a Democrat majority on City Council especially with a Republican mayor, I am inviting you to help elect two highly-qualified Democratic candidates for city council.
What they need, besides votes, is money for their campaigns. I think so highly of them that I have, personally, given each the maximum donation of $550. I'm hoping you will, after you have met them, consider giving them each $50-$550.
This is the best we can do for them since many of us are not in their districts.  As you will see, when you meet them, they are excellent candidates:  smart, hard-working young women with good values of Democrats, supporting all people living in San Diego. They are pro-choice, in favor of contraceptives, and running against Tea-Party candidates who support the opposite. We can't let San Diego become a Tea Party city like many other cities in the U.S. These are swing seats which we can win with your help. This is important! So I hope to see you at my house on Sunday, March 30 at noon - 1:30pm for lunch. Please RSVP by email to me: [address removed] If you can't come, hopefully you can donate anyway using the attachments below. Hope to see you Sunday at WHERE: 8317 La Jolla Shores Dr.,LJ 92037 Best wishes, Leanne Parking Directions: Park on La Jolla Shores Dr. or up the private road east off La Jolla Shores Dr. between Vallecitos and Garza, park on the grass above my gate. _______________________________________________________

The lives and livelihoods of tens of thousands of Japanese have been irreparably harmed with devastating human, economic and environmental consequences. What are some of the known risks at the Diablo Canyon and what is being done to address them? Even if retrofits are possible, can these costs be justified to PG&E's ratepayers? *** FRIDAY APRIL 4 at   11:00am "We Renew Our Struggle for Justice "  ~ DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.  gave his life in the struggle for economic justice. On April 4th, the 46th anniversary of his assassination during a sanitation workers strike in Memphis, we can commemorate Dr. King’s commitment by demanding that Congress get out of Wall Street’s pocket, and heal Main Street. We need to highlight that the richest 10% of Americans capture 48% of the market income, the richest 1% gets 19%, and the top .1% takes 10.4%. As reported in the New York Times (3/12/14), returns on invested capital – the target of the Robin Hood Tax on Wall Street – are outstripping economic growth and directing a growing share of economic rewards into the hands of the wealthy.”  These numbers are the kind of nightmare that Dr. King organized to prevent. And we must carry on his legacy, so join us on April 4th.   Dr. King’s legacy is being renewed in a new progressive populist moment in the US. FLYERS: http://www.robinhoodtax.org/april4flyers A Budget that Creates Jobs and a Tax for the People  Robin Hood Tax Campaign to urge support for HR 1579, the Inclusive Prosperity Act, sponsored by Rep. Keith Ellison. This bill would raise up to $350 billion to create green living wage jobs, guarantee healthcare, reverse climate change, build affordable housing and stop hunger. The vision of Dr. King to end poverty lives on in part through the work of PDA and the Robin Hood Tax campaign. It’s simple: the financial crisis and the recession have left a massive hole in the US’s public finances. Jobs and and the community services we rely on are at risk in the US while many other developed and developing countries face a similar struggle.  But there is another way. Robin Hood supporters believe that banks, hedge funds and the rest of the financial sector should pay their fair share to clear up the mess they helped create. Where: District Office of Rep. Subject: Democracy for America Endorsement for Betty Yee for Controller

Dear Friends,

Recently, I applied for Democracy for America's endorsement of my race for California State Controller.

As you know, the driving force behind all DFA endorsements is its members.   To earn the DFA endorsement, I respectfully ask that you "Voice Support" for my campaign on my DFA application page:

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/campaigns/3198-betty-yee-for-controller-2014
Additionally, will you ask the members of your local DFA groups to do the same?   I am pleased and buoyed by how each day, my campaign to become California's next Controller continues to welcome new supporters who want change and elected leadership that is not bought.
Thank you for standing strongly with me.
In solidarity, Betty Betty Yee [mailto:[address removed]]

NOTE:  We will vote on an endorsement for BETTY YEE, CANDIDATE FOR CA STATE CONTROLLER !  Carol Changus, Organizer, SD DFA

Womens Groups Support my campaign!

Dear Friends:
I am so pleased to be able to announce today, during Women's History Month, that I have earned the endorsement of a number of well respected womens organizations.  Planned Parenthood Action Fund, EMILY’s list, Women’s Campaign Fund, Run Women Run, National Womens Political Caucus and the California National Organization For Women have all endorsed my campaign for San Diego City Council.
I’m running for San Diego City Council because I’m passionate about public service. As an attorney, I left private practice to become a federal prosecutor and I loved my work because every day I helped to keep our community safe.
You can read the entire press release here.   If you'd like to support my campaign to represent San Diegan women and families on the San Diego City Council, please consider joining us tomorrow night for our ReBoot 2014 event or making an online contribution to my campaign.
Thank you, Sarah

San Diego Democracy For America

March 6, 2014

I, Carol Changus, am writing to enthusiastically endorse Derek Cressman for CA Secretary of State.
Derek Cressman has worked diligently since 1995 on researching problems facing our American Democracy and promoting solutions and citizen engagement.
As a national reform leader at Common Cause, he crafted ballot measures passed by over 3 out of 4 voters in Los Angeles and San Francisco calling for Congress to reverse Citizens United and ban corporate campaign spending. He has been the tough watchdog California voters need to stand up to special interests, expose SuperPACs and protect the integrity of our elections.
Derek is running for Secretary of State to make sure your vote counts and your voice is heard. The voices of the people should not be drowned out by corporations or billionaires. When secretive, out-of-state groups funneled $11 million into California’s 2012 elections, Derek blew the whistle and got record fines for two front groups in the Koch Brothers big money political network.
He said "We’ve got to get corporate money out of politics". Mr. Cressman, a longtime California activist, helped lay the groundwork for the growing movement to amend the Constitution to overturn the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. He has the management experience, as well as, the specific knowledge needed for the job of California Secretary of State .
I , Carol Changus, am the chair and organizer of San Diego Democracy For America, (San Diego DFA). Our San Diego DFA Meetup membership is 515 plus members, and that can be easily verified at our website site: www.meetup.com/dfa-23 .  Our San Diego National DFA membership is national
website is http://www.democracyforamerica.com. National DFA membership is over one million.

Derek Cressman is the overwhelming choice of San Diego DFA members. On behalf of the San Diego Democracy for America Chapter, I verify that Derek Cressman received our unanimous San Diego DFA Endorsement on Wednesday,  March 7, 2014.
In the difficult times for California it is essential to elect Derek Cressman, the most knowledge candidate .  I urge you to join me in
this effort.
Please feel free to call me at (858)[masked], or email me at [address removed]
Sincerely,

Carol Changus, Chair & Organizer,

★ ★ ★ # 7. The Derek Cressman presentation, including the Q&A, from last week's DFA/PDA meeting is available at:

Our DFA Chapter endorsed Mr. Cressman, and in spite of there being a popular Democratic  candidate running, the California Democratic Party (CDP) voted for no endorsement at last weekend's convention.  This means that the voters will decide in the June Primary who runs for Secretary of State with CDP support.

Thanks,

Mike Thaller

★ ★ ★   # 8. Stop DOE release of radioactive waste into commerce

6930 Carroll Avenue, #340, Takoma Park, MD 20912;[masked];

[address removed]www.nirs.org

Act now to stop DOE release of radioactive waste into commerce!

March 27, 2014 Dear Friends,  Please tell Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz that we do not want radioactive waste in the marketplace and in our zippers, frying pans, cars, houses and baby toys.  Ask him to make permanent and expand the current bans placed on release of metal from radioactive areas of the Department of Energy (DOE) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) sites.
In the year 2000, DOE placed a suspension and moratorium on any metal from radioactive areas going into regular commercial recycling. This was a big victory for public health.   Since then, DOE has stored or disposed of that material as radioactive waste. But forces within DOE have been repeatedly pushing to sell the metal into the marketplace ever since.   DOE is now on the verge of reversing the suspension and opening the flood gates to letting metal from radioactive areas out into the marketplace!
DOE wants to use its own standards and detectors to “clear” potentially contaminated metal. But there is no safe level of radiation. Any exposure can cause weakened immunity, heart disease, birth defects and cancer, especially in children
The conflict of interest is obvious—DOE is responsible for the waste and DOE would decide if it is radioactive enough to “release” into our products and lives.
Act nowTell Secretary Moniz to not only keep the current ban but to make it permanent.  ------------------------------- Yes, this is important!  We don't know if it's been this year's never-ending winter or something else, but March has been our worst online fundraising month since we began online fundraising.
Indeed, our supporters--that's you--have not even covered one hour of NIRS' costs in this entire month! That has to change, and we hope it can change this weekend. After all, if we can't rely on our supporters to help, who else is there?
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation of any size here, or please send a check to NIRS, 6930 Carroll Avenue #340, Takoma Park, MD 20912. International donors and those willing to make a monthly sustaining donation (thank you so much!), please use this donation page. Let's get at least a few hours of our work paid for this month!  If you need an added incentive, consider what we're up against:
Dr. James Hansen is justly renowned as an essential climate scientist, one who has alerted the world to the peril of unchecked climate change. But those who have followed his career know he has moved from becoming a typical nuclear power advocate to an absolute fanatic who seems to neither understand nor care about the dangers of nuclear power nor its inability for a host of reasons to be an effective means of addressing our climate crisis.
