______________________________________________________________________*** SAT APRIL 19 at 10:00AM - 11:30PM " GREETINGS BAPAC ! - BLACK AMERICAN POLITICAL ASSOCIATION OF CALIFORNIA - CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS " TO MEMBERS & SUPPORTER< FROM SALMISHA LOGAN, serve as the Volunteer Community Coordinator for the 92114 (Southeastern San Diego) and 92139 (Paradise Hills) zip codes, and I need volunteers to join me in walking precincts in those two areas on your own schedule. With 2014 mid-term elections on the horizon, we need to elect Democrats and Progressives at all levels – for U.S. Congress, statewide offices, County Board of Supervisors, City Council and other local races. With that in mind, and the desire for our community to strengthen its electoral base as a tool to broaden its power, I recently joined the San Diego County Democratic Party Grassroots Organizing Team or GO Team. For those that may not be familiar with the GO Team, it’s the County Democratic Party’s voter contact outreach program; where volunteers connect with voters in their respective neighborhood precincts, and build better voter turnout with a personal touch. By walking, talking and developing relationships with Democratic and Decline-To-State voters in our neighborhoods, the GO Team promotes a slate of the Democratic Party endorsed candidates, and registers (and re-registers) as many Democratic voters as possible. GO Team walked precincts average a 14% increase in Democratic turnout. That’s how we help Democrats and Progressives win, by purposefully working our neighborhoods block-by-block, door-by-door, person-to-person – walking to win! This Saturday, April 19, 2014, 10am to 11:30am, I will hold our area GO Team Kick Off & Training, Where: in the conference room of the Bryco Building, 5475 Market Street, San Diego 92114. (We set the hours of the training so folk can still go to the BAPAC meeting that day. :) Also invite your family and friends to come with youtit will be an informative and fun time! Thank you and I look forward to seeing you then! Please let me know if you can attend. Or if you can’t attend this Saturday, call me for one-on-one or small group training.  Salimisha Logan, BAPAC MemberVolunteer GO Team Community Coordinator, [masked] h |[masked], c[address removed] FB: https://www.facebook.com/BAPACSD _______________________________________________

Subject: Democracy for America Endorsement for Betty Yee for Controller
Dear Friends, Recently, I applied for Democracy for America's endorsement of my race for California State Controller.
As you know, the driving force behind all DFA endorsements is its members.   To earn the DFA endorsement, I respectfully ask that you "Voice Support" for my campaign on my DFA application page: http://www.democracyforamerica.com/campaigns/3198-betty-yee-for-controller-2014

Thank you for standing strongly with me.

★ ★ ★   #2. A Please sign the petition: to include independent nuclear experts in their decision panels about waste disposal at rhw plant.

We're all in this danger together.

Radioactive nuclear waste stored at the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant will be a constant threat as long as it stays there, especially as it is situated in a seismically active area next to our coastline. I just took action to tell Edison to put safety ahead of profits at the San Onofre nuclear plant as they plan how to managethis nuclear waste. Please sign the petition to them to include independent nuclear experts in their decision panels about waste disposal atthe plant: http://www.credomobilize.com/petitions/tell-edison-to-listen-to-independent-nuclear-experts-on-decommissioning-san-onofre?sp_ref=37493550.4.7333.e.0.2&source=mailto_sp

Please forward this message to anyone else who is in danger due to proximity to the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant. They may also like the opportunity to voice an opinion.
Thanks for all you do!- Pat

★ ★ ★   #2 B. I will sign your petition and forward it.  I am a straight (un-crocked?)  man who was a Cub Scout (Wolf, Bear & Lion) and Sea Scout, Seaman 1st Class in the 1950s.

The Boy Scouts just fired troop leader Geoff McGrath because he's gay. I'm calling on Amazon to suspend its funding of the Boy Scouts until this discrimination stops.

Sign Pascal's PetitionFred -
My name is Pascal Tessier, and I am the first official openly gay Eagle Scout since the Boy Scouts ended their ban against kids like me. The day I got my Eagle award was one of the proudest of my life, and it happened because of a year of hard campaigning with Scouts for Equality to convince the Boy Scouts to accept openly gay scouts.
But now the Boy Scouts are back to their old discrimination -- they just fired a troop leader in Seattle because he's gay.
Geoff McGrath exemplifies everything the Boy Scouts are supposed to stand for. He's an Eagle Scout, and he worked with a local church to start a Cub Scout pack and a Boy Scout troop for underprivileged kids in Seattle. Geoff is a husband and a community leader. He also happens to be gay. So the Boy Scouts fired him.
Last year, we were successful in pressuring the Boy Scouts to accept openly gay scouts by convincing the BSA's corporate sponsors to pause their funding until the discrimination stopped. I am an Eagle Scout today because this tactic protected me. Now it's time to do the same to protect openly gay leaders like Geoff.
That's why I started a petition asking Amazon -- a new corporate sponsor of the BSA that's also headquartered in Seattle -- to suspend its funding of the BSA until openly gay leaders are allowed. Please click here to sign my petition.

★ ★ ★   # 8. Stop DOE release of radioactive waste into commerce 6930 Carroll Avenue, #340, Takoma Park, MD 20912;[masked];
[address removed]www.nirs.org Act now to stop DOE release of radioactive waste into commerce! March 27, 2014 Dear Friends,  Please tell Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz that we do not want radioactive waste in the marketplace and in our zippers, frying pans, cars, houses and baby toys.  Ask him to make permanent and expand the current bans placed on release of metal from radioactive areas of the Department of Energy (DOE) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) sites.
In the year 2000, DOE placed a suspension and moratorium on any metal from radioactive areas going into regular commercial recycling. This was a big victory for public health.   Since then, DOE has stored or disposed of that material as radioactive waste. But forces within DOE have been repeatedly pushing to sell the metal into the marketplace ever since.   DOE is now on the verge of reversing the suspension and opening the flood gates to letting metal from radioactive areas out into the marketplace!
DOE wants to use its own standards and detectors to “clear” potentially contaminated metal. But there is no safe level of radiation. Any exposure can cause weakened immunity, heart disease, birth defects and cancer, especially in children
The conflict of interest is obvious—DOE is responsible for the waste and DOE would decide if it is radioactive enough to “release” into our products and lives.
Act nowTell Secretary Moniz to not only keep the current ban but to make it permanent.  ------------------------------- Yes, this is important!  We don't know if it's been this year's never-ending winter or something else, but March has been our worst online fundraising month since we began online fundraising.
Indeed, our supporters--that's you--have not even covered one hour of NIRS' costs in this entire month! That has to change, and we hope it can change this weekend. After all, if we can't rely on our supporters to help, who else is there?
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation of any size here, or please send a check to NIRS, 6930 Carroll Avenue #340, Takoma Park, MD 20912. International donors and those willing to make a monthly sustaining donation (thank you so much!), please use this donation page. Let's get at least a few hours of our work paid for this month!  If you need an added incentive, consider what we're up against:
Dr. James Hansen is justly renowned as an essential climate scientist, one who has alerted the world to the peril of unchecked climate change. But those who have followed his career know he has moved from becoming a typical nuclear power advocate to an absolute fanatic who seems to neither understand nor care about the dangers of nuclear power nor its inability for a host of reasons to be an effective means of addressing our climate crisis.
