*** TUESDAY APRIL 28 @ 6:00pm-7:30pm " FOSTER KIDS SPEAK IN ENCINITAS " What's it like to grow up as a foster child after being abused, neglected or abandoned by your parents?  "The Real Word" speakers provide first-hand accounts about life in the dependency system. How does it feel to then move from home to home and to face the unimaginable pain of being separated from siblings? Young adults who have lived through the foster care system will answer those tough questions, and many others, during a panel discussion from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 28 at the Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encinitas. The speakers, who have shared their stories across the country, describe their challenges and how they overcame them with the help of a Court-Appointed Special Advocate, or CASA volunteer. CASAs represent foster children in court, school -- or Women's Museum of California 2730 Historic Decatur Road, Barracks 16, San Diego, California 92106 else -- and contribute greatly to the success of a foster child.  Real Word panelists are trained by Voices for Children, a San Diego-based nonprofit whose mission is to provide CASAs to foster children to ensure that their needs are met.  As the adoptive father of six foster children, I know the challenges that children living in foster care face every day. I am proud to support Voices for Children. Working together, we can change the trajectory of foster kids' lives.  Voices for Children is the only organization in San Diego and Riverside counties that is authorized to recruit, train and supervise Court-Appointed Special Advocates for abused and neglected children. By 2017, Voices for Children hopes to match every child in the San Diego County foster care system with a CASA.  The Real Word is open and free to anyone 18 or older; the event is not appropriate for children. Registration is required and can be completed online at www.speakupnow.org.   To learn more about The Real Word or becoming a CASA volunteer, call (858)[masked]. EARTH DAY 2015

Our annual Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup events are coming up on April 19, and our volunteers are ready to go to work.
But we still need to give them the tools and materials they need to do the job. You can make the difference by becoming an Earth Day sponsor with your donation today. When you make an Earth Day gift, you can choose the projects that matter to you most — whether it’s cleaning a beach, restoring wildlife habitat, or maintaining trails for families and friends to enjoy. Can we count on your Earth Day sponsor gift today? Remember, we don’t have much time before our April 1st deadline, so please take a moment now to make your gift. At our last Earth Day event, thanks to supporters like you, 2,573 volunteers helped out and: Planted 1,856 native trees and plants; Removed 907 cubic yards of non-native and invasive plants; Collected 459 bags of trash and recyclable materials; Installed fences and new signs … restored trails and historic structures … removed graffiti … built bridges … and refurbished picnic areas and campsites. With your help, we can do all that and more this year — so please become an Earth Day sponsor today. Thanks for your support,  Elizabeth Goldstein Presidnt, California State Parks Foundation PS — We’re counting on our community of parks supporters like you to help us make this our best Earth Day effort yet. But time is running out, so please make sure to sponsor a project by April 1st!

Fast Track Trade Promotion Authority Bill was introduced into the Senate Thursday April 16. http://waysandmeans.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=398314 CALLS TO MAKE NOW Please FLOOD their office with calls and emails asking for their commitment to VOTE NO ON FAST TRACK TPA FOR THE TPP.Scott Peters, Susan Davis and Norma Torres all said they were waiting for the text of the bill before committing to a yes or no vote.  Well they can read the text here http://waysandmeans.house.gov/uploadedfiles/tpa_bill_text.pdf The key message about the bill: this is the same Fast Track process that everyone opposed in last year's bill; if approved, it would rubber stamp trade deals that offshore jobs and drive down wages; thankfully, opposition is widespread from Rep Levin and many others and it looks like it'll die again this year.  Can we tell our members you're with us in opposing it?Please let me know how your conversations go, especially if you get a commitment from them to vote no on Fast Track.
