From: Martha Sullivan INFO & ENDORSEMENT & MUSIC
Subject: Please Join Me this Saturday (9/15) Eve to Support Stephen Whitburn -- SD City Council ...

... Come and hear some great music by one of our own local activists!

This Saturday evening (September 15th) is the first big fundraiser for Stephen Whitburn's terrific campaign for San Diego City Council District 3 (to succeed Toni Atkins, who is termed out next year).

You may have heard that Stephen won the endorsement of San Diego County's largest Democratic Club, the San Diego Democratic Club, by a whopping 69% in late June -- pretty much unheard of, and testament to the terrific candidate which Stephen already is.

I've already maxed out in contributing to his Primary campaign, even though I'm not in District 3 (I'm now in Scott Peters' District 1) -- because of the wonderful experience I have had working with Stephen over the past few years that I have been active in San Diego Democratic circles and most particularly, due to his absolutely sterling performance as our volunteer Treasurer for San Diego for Democracy before, during and after DemocracyFest at SDSU last summer -- in which he was responsible for handling over $200,000 in transactions and did it flawlessly.

I'm also supporting him for the same reason Donna Frye is -- to get another City Councilmember with her ethics, courage and commitment to San Diegans on the City Council to continue to move the City in the Progressive direction we all know will benefit so many more San Diegans.

The fundraiser will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, at the Grand Ballroom of the Claire de Lune Coffee Lounge, 2906 University Avenue in North Park. Donna Frye will be the headliner, and Charlie Imes will be providing the musical entertainment.

Many of you know Charlie from his political activism on various local campaigns or organizing events like last year's DemocracyFest out at SDSU with groups like San Diego for Democracy/DFA. What you might not have known is that for many years Charlie has been a singer/songwriter, and he is currently recording an album with multi-award winning producer, Jeff Berkley. Charlie will be playing some of his original material (which he refers to as "Beach Folk") as well as some more familiar tunes by artists such as James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, the Beatles, John Fogerty and more. Laid back and sprinkled with humor, Charlie's shows have a definite San Diego feel about them and he's pleased to be providing the musical entertainment for this evening in celebration of Stephen's candidacy.

For your very reasonable contribution of $35 as a Friend of Stephen, you'll experience a scintillating evening of conversation, music and hors d'oeurves. To RSVP or for more information, contact Tim Orozco at (619)[masked] or [address removed]

THANK YOU for your consideration of this request to support a City Council candidate who is truly one of us and who will do us ALL proud on San Diego's City Council. Hope to see you there!
