The San Diego Democracy for America Meetup Group Message Board › Meetup Wednesday, February 2
|A former member||
Meetup is coming up THIS Wednesday, February 2 -- tomorrow or today when
you're reading this -- at Giovanni's in Kearny Mesa, at 9353 Clairemont
Mesa Blvd at the southwest corner with Ruffin Road (fairly near the 15).
Meetup starts at 7 p.m., but this time you might want to come early.
The San Diego County Democratic Party and San Diego for Democracy are
co-hosting a "State of the Onion" party to listen to Bush's speech at 6
p.m., so we recommend you arrive around 5:30 to make sure you get a
seat. Please read Charlie's invitation below my message so you know
Charlie Imes will be speaking about upcoming San Diego for Democracy
activities. Jess Durfee of the San Diego County Democratic Party will be
speaking to us. And our guest speaker on media issues will be Miriam Raftery!
Miriam is a former Union-Trib freelancer who instigated a landmark
class action lawsuit supported by the National Writers Union, American
Society of Journalists & Authors, and the Authors Guild against all the
major newspapers and databases over copyright infringement, related to
media consolidation. Come hear her story, her outline of what needs to
change and what can be done to stop the excesses of big media.
We'll also recap local Democratic AD elections and hear from John Falchi
about Count Every Vote San Diego activiites.
Finally, we'll introduce the new Meetup committee who will be taking my
place in running the Giovanni's Meetups. (We had just the right number of
DFA central would like us to write letters to local media recommending
Dean for DNC chair. We won't have time to do the actual writing at the
Meetup, but I have paper, envelopes, stamps and addresses to pass out
so that you can go home and write at your leisure.
DFA Meetup Host, San Diego
------------------ from Charlie Imes:
The San Diego County Democratic Party
and San Diego for Democracy
are Co-Hosting a
State of the Onion Party.
Before the Meetup coming up next Wednesday evening, February 2nd, please
arrive early and join us for a party to watch President Bush give his
"State of the Onion" address. Why the Onion you ask? Because we
predict that as you peel back the layers and layers of lies, the more
you'll feel like crying.
This is part of a statewide, if not nationwide, series of get-togethers
of progressives to watch as the President tells the nation that things
are Hunky Dory in Bushville. We all know that things are going to hell
in a handbasket in the real world, but in Bushville, where nobody reads
newspapers and the citizenry who come anywhere near the President are
pre-chosen for your protection, we're sure that life is just one big
bowl of cherries... and President Bush is going to tell us all about it.
Come early to get a good seat and some food. The speech starts at 6:00
p.m., so I'd try to get there between 5:30 and 6:00 pm.
You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll have good food and some good friends
to commiserate with. Oh and the media will probably be there too, so
dress in something that would make your mother proud... or Lynne Cheney
