Party Leaders Call for Filner to Step Down In a painful decision for many who had worked so hard to elect him, last week the San Diego County Democratic Central Committee formally called on Mayor Bob Filner to step down. The County Party was soon joined by DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein. San Diego's Party leaders agreed that while the legal process continues for both Filner and the woman who has accused him of sexual harassment, it would be in the best interest of the city for him to resign.
Much important work lies ahead for San Diego Democrats this year, and the County Party remains focused on goals for 2014. Local Democrats will soon consider endorsements in critical contests for San Diego City Council and mayoral races in Chula Vista and Escondido. Democratic Congressman Scott Peters is fighting hard for reelection in the 52nd District, and other competitive races will emerge in the coming months. Please check upcoming "Blue View" issues for more details.

A Strong Summer for Democratic Voter Registration July was a tough month in San Diego politics. But that hasn't stopped the momentum of Democratic volunteers who work to ensure that eligible voters are registered and warmly welcomed to the Party.
The Party's registration team -- in tandem with many Democratic club members -- signed up hundreds of voters at events throughout the county last month. As always, volunteers at Party Headquarters will call each one personally, thank them for registering, and answer any questions they may have.
Thanks to everyone helping to keep San Diego County "blue," one Democratic voter at time! If you'd like to join them, go to www.sddemocrats.org/volunteer or call (858) 277-3367.
