★ DAVID ALVAREZ NEEDS YOUR HELP! Message from Mike Thaller

Carol C.
Group Organizer
San Diego, CA
To San Diego DFA & PDA Metro Members:
San Diego Progressives and the Progressive Caucus of the California Democratic Party (CDP) need our help.
As you know , the Mayoral special election will be in just a couple weeks to replace San Diego’s first Progressive-Democratic Mayor in over 20 years.   Bob Filner became a bad joke nationally and resigned in disgrace.
David Alvarez is a young, Progressive Democrat and would be the first Latino Mayor in San Diego’s history!
The conventional wisdom is that if David does not win against the Corporatist-Republican, Kevin Faulconer, in the February 11 special election, it could be another 20 years before San Diego sees another Progressive mayor.
As it is, depending on what poll you look at David is either neck and neck with Faulconer or David is behind by over 10%.
San Diego needs our help and we can help by making calls to potential voters to encourage them to mail in their ballots are go to the polls and vote for the Progressive Democrat.

The CDP has set up a virtual phone bank we can use.
If a large amount of calls are made on behalf of the CDP Progressive Caucus, they will get recognized at the 2014 California Democratic Convention and the 5000 attendees will be encouraged to join the Progressive movement, including the Caucus, the PDA, and DFA.  That gives us double incentive to make calls.

Making calls is simple and quick. Here is what worked for me.

  • I got my phone ready, went to my computer, and went to:
  • It asked me to register with my email address and made up password.
  • I filled in my email and password and selected the Progressive Caucus from the drop down.
  • It then asked me to log in, which seemed redundant to me, but I tried to.
  • I tried logging in and it wouldn't let me until I tried the password DAVIDWIN instead of the password I chose.
  • The voter's info showed up along with a script and I took it from there.

If the person asked for more details I directed them to the Alvarez website at: but If they asked, I told them…
Who would you rather vote for as our next mayor?

  • One candidate cares about us. The other (Kevin Faulconer) cares about bankers.
  • One was an educator. The other was a lobbyist and professional politician.
  • One was in the City Council for 8 years voting against our interests.  The other has been voting for the interests of all San Diegans.
  • One is a member of Community Organizations. The other is a member of the Yacht Club.

Each call took about 30 seconds. It is possible to make 50-100 or more calls in an hour or two.  I’ve started calling for about an hour each day.
PLEASE, please do some calling starting this week, both weekdays and weekends through to the February 11 election.
