?Every time you hear of gang violence, look in the mirror and recognize, the community (that?s you) didn?t do your job.?  This was one of the thought provoking comments made by Airick Leonard West in his presentation last Wednesday night.  Airick offered us a comprehensive outline of his BE1 of 100,000 mentoring program at that meeting.  This program is being applauded by teachers, parents and whole host of children's service organizations within the Kansas City area.   For those of you who missed this presentation, Steve Penn wrote a great article about the program in Thursday morning?s KC Star.  Follow this link to read it: http://www.kansascity.com/115/story/1067995.html  And, if you are interested in finding out how you can BE 1 of 100,000, here is Airick?s website:  http://www.be1kc.org/index.php   We hope you can join in.

Now the real purpose of this email is election of Officers to serve on the steering committee of GKCDFA into our future.

With the election, the inauguration and all of the excitement associated with our Victory, we have been pretty lax about preparing to hold our elections.  Since time is rapidly approaching when several of our officers will be leaving we have to improvise.

Our plan is to invite anyone who is interested in becoming a part of our steering committee to a steering committee meeting on March 18, 7:00PM @ Californos.  The positions open now are: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  But, please don?t shy away if these positions don?t intrigue you.  We don?t want to limit involvement to just those positions.  If in anyway you wish to join in, maybe on one of our other existing committees or maybe a brand new one you have in mind please plan please bring your idea and attending.

In order for us to plan for this event, please drop me an email [address removed] and indicate what position might be of interest to you, whether it?s one of the 4 listed above or not.  If for any reason you cannot attend that meeting but are interested in joining our merry little band, please let me know.

Thanks, hope to see many of you on the 18th!

Take Care
