Prop 13 Fix in the Works + Cal Dem Party wakes up?

Will we finally turn Proposition 13 on its head in 2010?

Is the California Democratic Party a sleeping giant roused at last?

Some very good stuff may be headed our way, find out more at East Bay DFA's July Meetup.

San Francisco County Assessor Phil Ting knows exactly what's wrong with Proposition 13 and he's decided it's his mission to give it a big overhaul. Last week he kicked off his "Close the Loophole" campaign to create greater equity in our tax system, shut down corporate tax loopholes and bring back fiscal sanity to the California budget.

KEVIN MATTHEWS, Policy Director for the San Francisco Assessor's office, is so motivated by the commercial property tax inequities he faces in his day job, he's become a major organizer for the Close the Loophole campaign during off hours.

Kevin will give us background - how Proposition 13 created residential/commercial tax disparities, possible solutions, the path chosen for Close the Loophole, and the campaign strategy to win reform at the ballot box in 2010.

PLUS!

JOHN BURTON's supporters assumed he'd roll to victory with about 90% of the vote in his run for Chair of the California Democratic Party last April. CHRIS FINNIE of Santa Cruz decided there should be a race, not a coronation, especially when she found herself the sole opposition candidate. Chris shocked the insiders by getting 24% and earned Burton's respect with her spirited and diligent campaign. Now she's been 'deputized' to run the red to blue Democratic campaign effort in Fresno County. Chris has some great plans in the works, and a few cautionary tales as well. Join us this Wednesday to get the inside scoop on the CDP from Chris.

AND...

We have a critical action item on the budget from the California Democratic Party provided especially for our Meetup. (We told them the idea and they went for it!)

Oakland Council Member At Large, REBECCA KAPLAN will explain the importance of Oakland's July 21st Special Election and why it's so important to vote.
