Hi Oakland DFA Meetuppers -

Believe it or not, the Special >interest< Election is only 27 days away. And many voters --- progressive voters --- don't even know it's happening. Even in Alameda County, where the outcome of several propositions might just be decided.

If you care about stopping Schwarzenegger's power grab before the GOP replicates it across America, but you just haven't taken the time to volunteer yet, this is your opportunity.

Take an hour or two this Thursday and come out and support our Berkeley DFA'ers (see Berkeley's DFA Phone Bank announcement below).

Never phone banked? No worries. It's really easy. And fun. I've phone banked for a number of hours now and only once have I encountered someone who wanted to actually talk about the issues (!).

Why? The calls are blissfully short and easy because most people just want to know how they can vote against Arnold Schwarzenegger. As soon as they realize we're against him, it's a slam dunk.

What makes this IMPORTANT is that we're calling the folks that will swing this election --- occasional voters who don't like Arnold but just don't know which way to vote (No on Props 73-78 and Yes on Props 79 and 80).

It's easy. It's fun. And there's pizza.

Please come!

You Have the Power,
Eden

Stop Arnold's Power Grab

DFA PHONE BANK NIGHT in Berkeley
Thursday, October 13, 6:00 PM
CUE
2161 Allston Way, Suite B
Berkeley, CA 94704

Phone banking will start at 6pm and end at 8:30pm. If you can't attend for the full 2 1/2 hours, come for an hour. You will still be able to make an impact!

WHY IS PHONE BANKING IMPORTANT?

Arnold Schwarzenegger's special election in *4 weeks* could cut public school funding in California by $4 billion per year,
silence teacher, firefighter and other public employee unions,
grab the redistricting power from the Democratic Legislature to redraw the lines mid-decade with out-of-date census data, and extend public school teachers' probationary period to five
consecutive years. Are you going to let him get away with that?

We are registering voters, persuading our fellow voters to vote by mail, and vote NO on Propositions 73-78 and YES on Props. 79-80 (these are the official positions of the California
Democratic Party and are described in detail on the the CDP
website at www.cadem.org).

Please take just a few minutes out of your schedule to attend Thursday's phone bank in Berkeley. Thank you!

NOTE: The CUE office is one block from downtown Berkeley BART. There is also a parking lot across the street. ($2 after 5pm)
