=====

As DFA-minded reformers, most of you have heard about Clean Money, recognizing that it is the reform that makes all other reforms possible. Perhaps you've watched "The Road to Clean Elections" -- the inspiring documentary narrated by Bill Moyers -- that we've presented at several Oakland DFA Meetups in the past two years. Or perhaps you were one of the meetuppers who voted last year to make Clean Money number one on our list of meetup priorities, topping even the war in Iraq.

If you've verbally supported the cause in the past, but you've never actually done anything specific about it, this is your opportunity to turn talk into action. This event is a fundraiser to support the work of the California Clean Money Campaign and full public funding of election campaigns in California.

It's also a chance to learn more about Clean Money legislation being pushed by Assemblywoman Loni Hancock (sponsor of AB 583, the California Clean Money and Fair Elections Act) as well as cleanly-elected Arizona legislator Meg Burton-Cahill and California Clean Money Executive Director Susan Lerner.

Meg Cahill-Burton will be there to talk about her experiences as a winning clean-money elected official. Rep. Burton-Cahill is a ceramic artist who says she never would have run for political office before the Clean Elections program. Now, she's a two-term Democrat representing a deeply Republican district of Tempe in the state House of Representatives. Cahill-Burton credits Clean Elections for "bringing different people (like myself) into the mix" who reflect and represent the diversity of the state's citizens.

On the eve of the Northern California Townhall meeting on AB 583 hosted by Loni Hancock (Saturday, 11-2, Oakland City Hall), come meet Clean Money champions and legislators, and be inspired by the difference Clean Money full public funding can make!

For more information on the California Clean Money campaign, take a few minutes to check out http://www.CAclean.or....

Again, space is limited, so if you are planning to attend, please do the following:

1) RSVP to "Moira.Brennan@CAclean.org" or call 1-800-566-3780 (the event address will then be provided)

2) Our meetup goal is to mobilize at least 20 meetuppers to attend. So we can track our progress, please also RSVP as you normally would at: http://dfa.meetup.com...

Please forward this announcement to your friends who are concerned about the impact of money on politics and want to make Clean Money a New Year's Resolution. The more people that show up, the more you will let your legislators know that you care and that you're sick of politics as usual!
