6:30 pm –Pizza and schmoozing
7:00 pm – “Heist” documentary teaser screening with Producer

Here’s what we have to offer:

1. “Heist: Who Stole the American Dream?” Teaser screening of a new, groundbreaking documentary on the roots of the American economic crisis, with Director/Producer Don Goldmacher. Associate Producer, and EB DFA Organizing Team member, Tara Merchant will be there too.

We’ll screen the 22-minute version of this groundbreaking documentary on the roots of the American economic crisis. Question & Answer after the screening with Producer Don Goldmacher. DFA Organizing Team Member Tara Merchant was the Assistant Producer.

Heist vividly lays bare four decades of corporate dismantling of Main Street, from outsourcing millions of manufacturing jobs, industry deregulation and attacks on organized labor, tax policies favoring mega-corporations and wealthy elites, and media consolidation.

The historical narrative provides a compelling backdrop for real world solutions, along with a glimpse of the current Occupy Wall Street movement.

2. Exposing “Payroll Protection” – Hilary Crosby, California Democratic Party Contoler will talk about a disingenuous ballot initiative prohibiting unions from political use of funds raised through payroll deductions, among other restrictions.

We’ve seen this “payroll protection” twice before on the California ballot – Prop. 266 in 1998 and Prop. 75 in 2005 and we beat it back both times. The same special interests have brought it back in 2012 with an initiative that has qualified for the November 2012 ballot.

The proposed statute would limit the use of government workers’ union dues for political purposes, thus severely restricting those unions’ ability to advocate for their members.

3. Primary Elections  – Get Out The Vote for Progressive candidates

We urge you to support these candidates so they can make it to the November election! Come to the Meetup and be prepared to sign up for the Get Out the Vote canvassing and phone banking in Tracy or in Oakland. Bring your calendars!

Jose Hernandez is running for Congress in CD-10.
He has lived an implausible life story, realizing his dream through hard work, perseverance, and education to become an astronaut, which began when he was a nine-year old boy helping pick crops with his farmworker family in the San Joaquin Valley. Jose, at the encouragement of the President and Michelle Obama, is now running for Congress in CD10 (Tracy/Modesto) against a first term Tea Party incumbent, Jeff Denham. Michelle Obama has agreed to campaign in the district for him. Jose is a strong believer in the American dream, which he wants to keep alive so others will have the opportunities he had. Jose is a progressive who supports our values.

Speaker John Boehner acknowledged that Republicans could lose the House; electing Jose will help realize this goal! http://joseforcongres... Let’s make sure Boehner is right!!

Abel Guillen is running for the State Assembly in AD18.

Successfully bringing Abel to Sacramento will be a key step in achieving a 2/3 super majority of Democrats in the Assembly.

Abel’s proven abilities at Peralta Colleges Board of Trustees will help Democrats drive the legislative agenda and move towards goals such as passing single payer health care.

Sign up to volunteer to turn out Democratic voters – it’s important, timely, and fun! http://abelforassembl...
