We'll take a moment to reflect on DFA activities in the East Bay during 2006, then start thinking about our political priorities for 2007, and consider options for East Bay for Democracy as a Dem Club in the coming months as well as what overall focus we want for our Oakland DFA Meetup.

FYI, East Bay for Democracy is the more formally organized DFA entity in the East Bay. Last year we were chartered as a Democratic Club in Alameda County and participated in the Dem Party's endorsement process prior to the June Primary. The Oakland DFA Meetup serves a more informal event-oriented role - hosting great speakers, providing bite-sized political action opportunities and providing an entry point for people wanting to get more politically
involved. Our two entities are pretty well intertwined.

Some things we'll consider at our January 16th Planning Meeting:

What seats will be open in 2008? Are we thinking about candidates yet? How do we want to approach the 2007/2008 election cycle?

What are the key political issues we care most about right now? What should we be doing about Iraq? Health Care? Election Integrity? Economic Issues?

Do we want to build stronger ties with the national DFA organization and our own California for Democracy?

What opportunities look good for partnering with other Bay Area DFA groups and/or Dem Clubs and progressive organizations?

Is there some important training we need for ourselves?

EB4D's Dem Club charter is up for renewal, do we want to recharter as a Democratic Club?

*****

Our January 16th meeting is all about taking stock of our successes and revving up for the next phase. We'll share what's on our minds and begin to plot out our action plan for 2007, all the while remembering, WE HAVE THE POWER!

All the best to everybody and hope to see you the 16th,

United We Meetup!
