DFA Meetup UPDATE - GOTV in Colorado Anyone!

Janet Stromberg, ...
Berkeley, CA
Hi everyone,

Just a note here for Meetuppers interested in upcoming events:

* VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE w/ GEORGE LAKOFF (not a DFA event, but sounds pretty good!)
* "THE DAY AFTER" DFA MEETUP Wednesday, November 5

Vince Casalaina is organizing a GOTV trip for Obama to Colorado and hopes to go with a crew of 20. The good news is 5 people signed up at last week's debate watch for a current total of 15. There's still room! If you'd like to go, please contact Vince at: 510-841-8524 hm/off

More details:

When: Start Work Tuesday, Oct. 28 Leave after the victory party, Tuesday Nov 4

Where: We’ll be working all over the state—Grand Junction, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, Denver, Boulder, etc. But if you have a preference, the campaign will try to make that happen. The goal is to distribute folks to where they are most needed. It’s important for the incoming volunteers to be flexible.

What: As always there is canvassing / phone banking / data entry / office work

We are also a resource for the campaign. We’ve done all these jobs before and many of us have organized these jobs for other campaigns. We can help with the organizing and training of these jobs.

Let us know what you’d prefer to work on. The campaign will see what they can do to make it happen.

Promised: Housing for those who need it. Food while we are working. Plenty of rewarding work.

Travel: All we need to do is get to Denver. Southwest fares are currently -- $89 each way on the Wanna Get Away plan

Join the Albany Library community on Thursday night, October 2, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, for a lively evening of political insight and discussion with noted local authors Susan Griffin and George Lakoff.

The evening will begin with a live screening of the Vice Presidential debate, with both Lakoff and Griffin in attendance. Following the debate, the two authors will offer their commentary on what took place, and invite questions and discussion from the audience. The night concludes with a discussion of their most recent work.

Noted poet and social critic Susan Griffin’s new book, Wrestling with the Angel of Democracy: On Being an American Citizen, is her personal exploration of the meaning of democracy. George Lakoff’s most recent book, The Political Mind: Why You Can’t Understand 21st Century Politics with an 18th Century Mind, explores the communication styles of Progressives and Conservatives.
