John Burton, Chair of California Democratric Party - this from wikipedia:

"As a legislator, Burton was known for expanding the Cal Grant scholarship program, and passing a law (subsequently defeated in a referendum) that would have required California businesses to pay for health coverage for their workers. The magazine California Journal said about Burton's departure from the Senate in 2005: 'Gone will be the Senate's most vehement partisan for social services for the poor, the Senate's angriest voice against tax breaks for businesses and the wealthy, its loudest voice for protection of workers, its fiercest pro-labor advocate and its disciplinarian.'"

Our very own Dem Party leaders, Hilary Crosby (CDP Controller), Karen Weinstein (CDP Women's Caucus Chair) and Mal Burnstein (CDP Progressive Caucus NorCal Vice Chair) all agree that there's been sea change in the California Dem Party since John Burton took over in April. Staff is fired up and burning on all cylinders organizing grassroots advocacy on behalf of revenue solutions for our State budget and giving campaign training workshops all over the state. In fact they've even hired Take Back Red California Chair four waters to help implement a genuine 58 county plan.

This is your chance to meet John, hear for yourself where he wants to take the Party and just maybe get inspired all over again.

PLUS!

San Francisco County Assessor Phil Ting knows exactly what's wrong with Proposition 13 and he's decided it's his mission to give it a big overhaul. Come learn about Phil's "Close the Loophole" campaign to create greater equity in our tax system, shut down corporate tax loopholes and bring back fiscal sanity to the California budget.

Do come July 8 to find out how this campaign will run and what we'll all need to do to help. If this is YOUR ISSUE, don't wait for July 8. There's a kick-off organizing meeting July 1st in San Francisco. We'd love to get a report from you all about it.
