MESSAGE OF THE WEEK: Free Speech @ 40 with HOWARD DEAN ... This Friday at noon!

This week marks the 40th anniversary of the Free Speech Movement, a
watershed event in student activism and the power of young people to
shape our world!

The ASUC, Berkeley ACLU, and FSM Archives will be co-sponsoring a
series of events from October 4-10, culminating with the Sproul Police
Car Noon Rally and Sproul Hall Teach-ins on Friday, October 8
(tomorrow).

Sproul Police Car Noon Rally: Recapture the spirit of the famous FSM
Police Car Rally by coming out from 12:00-1:30pm to hear about the
legacy of FSM and how we can face the civil liberties challenges of
today. Speaking lineup includes GOVERNOR HOWARD DEAN, Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg, Chancellor Robert Birgeneau and more!

Sproul Hall Teach-ins: Share your views on important civil liberties
issues of today with other students and community members inside
Sproul Hall. Topics include Civil Discourse and Student Discipline,
Racial Justice Disparities, Reproductive Rights, and more!

For a full listing of events for the week, please visit www.asuc.org
or www.fsm-a.org
