Kayaking: Lake Ray Hubbard / dinner afterwards

EVERYONE NEEDS TO SUPPLY THEIR OWN KAYAK FOR THIS EVENT. Please bring your PFD.

I thought this would be something nice for us to do on a Saturday afternoon.

Bring your kayak and come on out and join us for some kayaking on Lake Ray Hubbard and possible dinner afterwards (we'll wing this one and see how everyone feels after kayaking).

The address for this event is: 7110 Shipp Road, Rowlett, Texas.

To get there from the Dallas area:

I-30 East

Exit 64 to (north) Dalrock Road

Left on Miller Road

Right on Chiesa for about a mile

Left on Shipp Road       -

Second house on left, set back a little on the property.

7110 Shipp Road

Look for a big yellow sign at the driveway/street area "Meetup: Kayaking Here"

Go down all the way down the driveway, to the grassy area of the property. Follow that down through the property, through the gate and to the lake area.

We'll be leaving from the back of the property at 7110 Shipp road. We'll be dropping in the lake/creek area around 11AM and start to head out from there soon thereafer. We'll kayak up through the NORTH END of the lake, going underneath HWY 66 (Lakeview Parkway) to the very far eastern side of that area, following it up to a really interesting creek area that goes up a good ways though a winding creek area . which stretches to/around Liberty Grove Road and beyond if we feel like doing so/or the water runs out, whichever comes first..

Afterwards, if everyone feels like it, we can head out to either a local pizza buffet or a Chinese buffet, both, just two miles from our location.

It's totally a personal choice, but, I try not to advise on renting or not renting kayaks for day outings, as this would be roughly 4 hours .. give or take and I don't want to make anyone feel they should have gotten more out of their rental. When we do camping trips, I certainly advise renting a kayak because about every place we camp usually has a lake or a river. This next camping trip (July 20-22) will have a good spanse lake in which we will be kayaking. I hope you all will think about joining us.

I had a wonderful time kayaking. Liked everyone in the group and will be back soon as I can find a kayak I like and can afford.

Very fun and interesting trail, not your everyday paddle around the lake experience.

And ..... I may be heading out today to check out another paddling trail for us .... YAY! Look for it! This was so much fun. But, alas, it's not where you are, what you're doing .. but the company you keep that makes a big difference. What.. great company!

Great group! Lovely trip! Now all I need is a real kayak! Do not buy and inflatable!! LOL!

This creek area gives WHOLE new meaning to LIMBO! Wow ... everyone was just a great deal of fun .. I am really looking forward to getting together with ALL of you again. I had such a good time .. 100%. It was worth every freckle I added to my palet (and the sunburn I got!) I look forward to seeing all of you again soon. I'm sorry about the folks who didn't get to make it, it was truly a wonderful experience.

Sorry we missed everyone. We were actually out on the lake but never caught up to you all. Didn't help that I fell out of my kayak in the middle of the lake with only my husband around. I would like to try this again but next time earlier in the day.

I'm wearing my swim suit in case I 'accidentally' fall in. :)

Haaa Haaa! You could not be more right! Thanks again!

And .. sometimes it DOES become a swimming 'adventure' ... might be a good thing though with this heat, eh? I will put a nice bright yellow sign at the front of the property by the street. You'll know where to go from there.

Michael...thanks for that! You really made my day, because I'm so looking forward to this! Thank you Cheryl - for caring enough to make sure that a kayak adventure, doesn't become a swimming adventure!! LOL!!

  • Cheryl

Well, you heard it folks, Michael said there shouldn't be any problems with an inflatable up that way! Thanks for that Michael . see you in a couple days folks ... I am really looking forward to this.

We do a lot of river, creek kayaking with this group .. With a lot of the areas we go through, there are a lot of sticks, branches, etc ... so need to be extra careful with inflatables ...

Just this morning I was able to acquire a quality inflatable on Amazon for $115.00. With two day shipping, it'll be here on Friday! Great for a beginner like me!

Thanks for that Kristine. Yes, when you're planning to rent a kayak, for any event, whether through REI, Discover Kayaks, or
http://www.kayakinstruct.com/, etc .. you always need to pre-arrange these things. I didn't push the renting issue because we may only be out there for about four-five hours. When we do the camping/kayaking events, I would certainly suggest renting a kayak if you don't have one. We have such a wonderful time. I hope you all will consider coming out with us sometime.

Just FYI anyone planning to rent a kayak from above will need to contact the organization in advance to make sure they have them available. It shouldn't be a problem because they keep them in a storage container on site, but better to be safe.

The faster you paddle .. the better the breeze .. about all we can do in this type of weather. :)) I'm looking forward to this and meeting all of you!

You're certainly welcome to bring your dogs folks .. just make sure they have been on a kayak before or you might be struggling a bit. I leave mine at home .. 175 lbs on a kayak ... are you kidding me? Irish Wolfhounds are house dogs, at best! Bring on the dogs! The more the merrier!

    June 18, 2012

http://www.kayakinstruct.com/ You can rent from this company that is right off the lake near paddle point park (miller and lake ray hubbard). We rented last month and then went out and bought our own. Can wait to meet everyone!

    June 18, 2012

  • Cheryl

Just to reiterate .. everyone needs to have their own kayak for this.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
