Our beloved best furry friends come with an short expiration date. So you wanna' capture as many memorable moments as you can for posterity. Fortunately, both the Garland and the Grapevine Bass Pro Shop stores are dog-friendly. What other Santa's Wonderland allows dogs? In fact, the Garland store told me that, so far, there's been almost as many dogs coming in for photos with Santa as children! Both locations recommend bringing your BFF on Monday through Wednesday before the Christmas school vacation to avoid the rush, and any small children who are either affraid of dogs or are inappropriately too friendly with dogs. Santa & his Elves are available for photos Mon-Fri 5-8 PM, Sat. 10 AM to 8 PM, Sun. 12 Noon to 5 PM. You have to bring your own camera, and tripod (for sharper images), for photos with the Elves and other features in Santa's Wonderland. I suggest that you purchase a Christmas costume or holiday dog collar from any pet store to dress you BFF up for the photo op. (You can always return it later.)

Bass Pro Shops really went all out. While by not means as elaborate as, say Macy's (in NYC) winter wonderland, it was still quite remarkable given it's an outdoor sporting goods store. Besides, what other store would freely allow larger dogs into their winter wonderland to take photos with Santa for free? The "Elves" were very friendly, and all loved Marley in is Santa costume. They were so impressed with his good behavior and his willingness to pose for my photos, they didn't bother to object that Marley was offleash during his photos. (I'd immediately put him back on with each change of scenery.) The Elves (store employees in costumes) even insisted that Marley sit for a photo with Santa. Afterwards they suggested several other rustic Christmas scenes in the store for me to shoot photos of Marley. Overall, Marley & me had a great time. I highly recommend folks take not only their BFFs but their kids, too. There's nothing quite like a Texan Christmas!
