WordPress in 2014: Year of the Theme

Thanks to Improving EnterprisesWP Engine and Develare you can spend the afternoon eating pizza and co-working with the most talented internet professionals in the Metroplex.

TALK INFO: This talk will take a look at how themes have evolved and how new theme frameworks can make your site look, and work, very differently from the old "main column + right sidebar" design of yesteryear.

Tony Cecala is a sought-after consultant, speaker, and digital pioneer who brings successful hi-tech strategies to local business niches. At Newsroom Ink, a brand journalism company, he develops advanced online newsrooms for business, government, and non-profit organizations. Tony is a technology consultant to Speakeasy and DMNMedia, managing their server farm and architecting content marketing platforms using WordPress.

For the past 20 years Tony has pioneered digital approaches to local advertising, niche marketing, and event production. He published the Holistic Networker magazine, a local directory of alternative medicine, and successfully took it online where he garnered advertising revenue from local and global event marketing, pioneered pay-per-click techniques, and integrated advertising from both Yahoo and Google advertising programs on the same page using proprietary optimization algorithms.

Was this on Sunday? I didn't even get a notice like I ususally do. Oh well, next time.

Hi Perla, Sorry that happened! I would check the Meetup email settings or spam folder. They send reminders 7-days and 2-days out and I sent a Friday email too. I will start a separate DFWWP newsletter with MailChimp so this doesn't happen again. Thanks for letting me know.

      No worries. Thank You.

So Sad that I wasn't able to make it to this meetup.

I look forward to next months and seeing everyone again.

Just FYI, I have used the X Theme that Tony talked about on several sites. They have just released version 2.0. I have been using WP for almost a year now and before that I was using Joomla. Although I do not have extensive experience in many other themes, I will say I like it better than Studio Press (Genesis). But that is just me and my $0.02. Houston

Thanks for expanding my knowledge on some of these newer themes. And I dig the black shades attire- "He's pretty for a white guy."

Great meetup Tony! I had not worked with some of those themes before, so it was very informative.

What do I need to bring with me? Should I bring my laptop?

    May 23, 2014

    • Tony C.

Lori, We are not going to be doing a "classroom" session, so a laptop is optional. However, if you want to take notes and visit/bookmark the sites, or maybe do some work on your site, then "yes", bring it.

I've been working for The Man for 19 years, but I'd like to build a free-lance practice. Experienced in all phases of Web development and design, but lately I've been mostly working on the front end.

SO sorry I can't make it. Have a previous commitment.
