July DFWWP: WordPress 102: Beyond the Basics

New to WordPress? Confused? Need a "getting oriented" map?

We started on this topic in May and got only halfway through the material. In July, we will cover the remainder of the basics and cover intermediate material as well. Bring questions and a laptop, site clinics also take place at the afterhours at Sherlock's where advanced members can help you with your site problems.

We will cover:

  • Setting the right Permalinks — and why it matters
  • 12 essential WordPress plugins
  • 8 Common WordPress errors and how to avoid them
  • Uploading images the smart way
  • Hidden secrets of the media panel
  • How to get WordPress help at 2am
  • Some ideas for getting "traffic"
  • Why your site is slow and how to fix it
  • Security best practices.
  • Q & A

I really should have gotten there earlier to get a better seat. The meetings are getting huge, and the venue a bit crowded. Also, Tony has a soft voice, and I don't have very good hearing. Could have used some amplification. Despite all that, I learned some useful stuff, as usual.

Excellent meeting. It doesn't matter how advanced you are, you'll always learn something at these meetings.

Great information, looking forward to part 3! Is there a way to make the screen image larger (larger font) so it can be read from the back of the room? Went to Sherlock's afterwards - fun, and even more great information!

First time attending the wordpress meetup. Really impressed with the turnout & the knowledge & passion everyone has for this group. The information around plugins was especially helpful! Can't wait for the next meetup!

I always get a lot out of Tony's tips and suggestions and this week was no exception. This week in particular I benefited from some very helpful suggestions from other audience members. Thanks and I look forward to next month.

I love this event and look forward to it. I just wish that we could start on time since we always run out of time for the presentation. Stellar information though.
Can't wait for the next one.

The subject matter and presentation was terrific and it's great that so many people are attending, but I was uncomfortable trying to use my laptop on my knees. More tables please.

We REALLY needed a microphone, especially for those of us in the back of the room.
This Meet Up is always one to look forward to. Great fun, lots of useful information, great networking. Not to be missed...ever!

Good basic information. It was mostly on issues with which I've had experience so it didn't cover a lot of new ground for me. While I understand the networking aspect . . . it was nearly 4:30 before the presentation began. That was way too long in my opinion. Ten minutes tops is sufficient.

Enjoyed it. Very good presentation. Only issue I had were the morons behind me that kept talking and didn't put devices on silent.

If this meet-up gets any bigger Tony is going to have to set up Large Screen in the parking lot for remote viewing...hey, if Jerry Jones can do it..why can't Tony?
