David will be covering very briefly, history of street photography, the motivation behind street photography and the philosophy behind this genre of photography.

Using photos from his photo hunts at Little India, Orchard Road and the streets of Shinjuku and Shibuya in Japan, David will also cover the finer points of street photography, mainly:

    1. Walking the streets - what to see, how to see
    2. How to photograph strangers on the streets, and how to gain access to people
    3. Seeing the light - how to use light to your advantage
    4. Composition of the street - how to compose a photo based on the randomness of the
    street
    5. How to manage exposure and focus in a fast changing environment
    6. How to make a unique visual statement

Participants will also be walked through a set of photos on Shibuya Crossings, a sub-project within Tokyo Dreaming, a long term project on the streets of Tokyo, to see how the principles covered were put in place. Using short video clips filmed on the streets of Tokyo, participants will be able to see how David approach his subjects, and by going through each photo in turn, you will also see how light and composition were used in creating
    those photos.

the issue is not really about the camera but how one starts to see the world using composition and then take the shot. There is a simple workshop about street shooting so you might want to join that workshop though it require a fee for using the place and having tea break while the workshop is conducted by David Teo.
