2nd Fireworks Practice Session + Conservatory Macro Shoot

READ THIS FIRST!!

2nd Practice before the Big Event.

It will be a Gardens by the Bay extravaganza!

Now we know how it is to be expected for the shoot, then one can actually be mentally and equipment prepared (yes I heard you Terry!) for the shoot on the 4th.

And I cannot emphasized it enough, it is Gardens by the Bay EAST. DO NOT shortchange the whole name as one missing piece equals to a world's apart by a body of water unless you love walking long distances and/or swimming.

To be extremely sure, please tell the driver to go to Tanjung Rhu, then Rhu Cross and then look for the Sign to go Marina Bay Golf Course and either go to the car park straight on (not turning left into the golf course) or drop off at the visitor centre. Public bus is 158.

The Map to the place (Please note the whole URL in a book mark in the phone/tablet):
http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/travel/travel_id_57001/travel_site_1/

I personally do not like to use UWA and Fisheye lens for fireworks and hence I prefer to shoot as it is. Hence this place is really just perfect for people who are just starting out to enjoy photography with kit lens as wide angle lens (11-18mm) and fish eye (anything less than 11mm) will be too wide for this location. So please take note.

Wired Shutter Release and tripod are essential. Filter set for sunset as optional.  If you want to buy any of these items, please go to http://wilzworkz.ownashop.com and collect from me at the outing.

As the 4th August will have 25% more fireworks, it will be more spectacular and hopefully with something that will shoot higher than the MBS.

I will be close the the location of last weekend As I am looking for a tighter Perspective and perhaps will let go of the flyer altogether.

There will be an additional activity: Conservatory Shoot.

I will be going back to the 2 conservatories to shoot flowers and get details I have missed during my last trip there from 1pm onwards.  So if you are interested to go to the 2 domes/conservatory/fake environment, you can join me as well.

For both events please note meeting place and timing
1pm Visitor Centre of the GBTB SOUTH (where the super trees are)
4.30pm Visitor Centre of the GBTB EAST (where the Marina Bay Golf Course Entrance is)

Thanks everyone for joining me as I shoot the fireworks again. I hope my small little tips and tricks do help everyone to get the hang of shooting fireworks. I understand it is not easy as more fireworks will provide a spectacular show visually but is pure hell for photographing them as too many fireworks will tend to spoil the whole image.

As always, am here to give more help to those who wants to learn.

    Funny...thought I have replied.

Anyway...my phones in the description above.

Those who wants to join me at the Conservatories please let me know by 12pm. I will be there by 1.30pm.

Those who are going conservatories, please bring along your macro lens and landscape lens (11-16mm Ultra wide and 8-10mm fish eye).

Do note again. Conservatories will cost you 10 dollars per conservatory. The OCBC sky walk is $5. hence, the annual pass is worth it.

@Wilson, were you taking the photos at the longer end of 70 - 300? I have 70 - 200 and 100 - 400. I'm thinking which one to bring for this Saturday.

    1 · July 30, 2012

    • Wilson W.

70-200. [masked] for jets and fly bys

      August 3, 2012

  • Astaire L.

Hi everyone, I'm a new member here. I wanna join you all this Saturday, but I've a wedding lunch at MBS and dunno what time it ends. Can I join you guys after that and who can I contact? Thank you.

    August 2, 2012

    • Wilson W.

Astaire. Wow...wedding lunch at MBS. Some of us will be shooting at Gardens by the Bay Conservatories just next to MBS (location wise...distance wise...hmmm). Do call me at[masked] before 1.30pm if you want to join us at the gardens. Do change to something comfy before coming down. Can''t image wearing cocktail attire for shoot.

Me too, I have another appointment to honor till 5 PM. Would like to join the party by 5:30 or so

    1 · August 2, 2012

    • Wilson W.

Sabhari: Just find us at the water edge. You should know me by now...LOL!

      August 3, 2012

  • Takashi Y.

@Wilson I was at the site last night with[masked] mm lens and 100 mm already feels too tight. Maybe 70 mm is the sweet spot.

    1 · August 3, 2012

    • Wilson W.

yeah. this is the lens I would say should bring[masked]mm. However can bring the 400 mm for the jets and fly overs.

      August 3, 2012

  • David G.

Hi Wilson, I will be joining for the 4.30 fireworks session, I hope i can find the meeeting point at "Visitor Centre of the GBTB EAST"

the map link is above. just go tanjung rhy and enter the park over at Rhu Cross

      August 3, 2012

  • Wilson W.

Yoshida san. I shot at 50mm and crop. Did not bring the 70 unfortunately.

    July 30, 2012

  • Wilson W.

I will be bringing[masked], 85mm just in case.

    July 30, 2012

  • Wilson W.

    @myatzh Sure no problem.

    July 30, 2012

  • Wilson W.

Did some practice again over the weekend. Here are the shots.

If you want something similar then one should bring[masked] telephoto lens or the 24-70mm. 50mm is too short.

Those who wants to join me at the Conservatories, please indicate here if I should expect you. I won't be taking calls as I want to concentrate on shooting.

  • Wilson W.

do share what you are bringing so people can learn too.

    As usual

18-70 or maybe even the[masked] this time for the planes and helicopters again. Even at 18mm it is going to be very wide.

    Shutter trigger and tripod.
    Filters for sunst
ND for shot of the gardens at night.

    July 18, 2012

  • Takashi Y.

Yeah. Now I think I know what I want to bring next time.

    July 17, 2012

  • Wilson W.

So the point is this. Plan for every eventuality unless one has went to the place and understand what lens to shoot with.

    1 · July 17, 2012

  • Takashi Y.

Good point on lens. Though i had some good shots, my wide angle was too wide.

    July 16, 2012

  • Wilson W.

Thanks to Marie for feedback on the lens to use.
