I recently put together a photo exhibit of children that I took during my last trip to Nepal back in the spring. These photos are now on display at the Center for Health, Intervention & Prevention (CHIP) at the University of Connecticut, and also at Go Nomad Café in South Deerfield, Mass. I encourage you to check out the photos (and my first attempt at being a photographer!).
The photos are for sale, ranging in price from $75-$125, depending on matting and frame size. I am also offering unframed prints. All of the proceeds from this exhibit go to the orphanage in Kathmandu, Bal Mandir. I visited Bal Mandir during my last trip and was completely overwhelmed by the children there. Many of their parents had been killed in the political violence that continues in the country, died of disease, or simply could not be located. Many of the children I saw had disabilities and infections, but were still as innocent and cute as one would expect. My goal is to sponsor a child at the orphanage, which means paying for her/his schooling, health care, and other basic necessities that the orphanage cannot afford. For $200, you can sponsor a child for one year. For $1000, you can sponsor a child until he/she is 18. I would love to be able to raise enough money to sponsor a child until she/he is grown. The children photographed in this exhibit are those I met on the streets and in villages while conducting a survey in Kathmandu. They were bright-eyed, shy, curious about my fair skin and big camera, and giggled while watching my every move. In the middle of my research on topics that are very often hard to digest, they were a sign of hope. This exhibit is homage to those children, who will hopefully make Nepal a better place in the future. I hope you will check out the exhibit! |

since i work at CHIP, it will be displayed indefinitely. CHIP is in the south part of campus, in the alumni residence complex, near the nathan hale inn. if you are familiar with campus, and you know where WEBB site used to be, it is on the floor below it.
i'd be interested to hear about your trip(s) to nepal. drop me a line sometime (or come to an event!). |
