Dinner at a mom and pop Italian restaurant

Slight change of plans. :-)

As I mentioned, da Filippo's is a small mom-and-pop place and because they are, they can't handle a large party like ours; making ten random dinners and delivering them at the same time within a reasonable amount of time is difficult for such a small operation.  So the father suggested a prix fixe menu. The menu is:

Starters are:

    • Bruscetta (you haven't had bruscetta like this, trust me),
    • cold antipasta,
    • arugula fritters with clams (their most popular dish, I'm told).
    • risotto with home made sausage (I've had this for an entree, best sausage I've ever had!)

Main course choices are

    • Fish du jour (whatever looks good that day at the market)
    • NY Strip steak, Sicilian style (I have no idea what that is)

Dessert is

    • mini cream puff pastries with chocolate sauce (you want this just for the chocolate sauce!)
    • I think they're throwing in coffee/espresso too.

All for $75 which includes tax and gratuity.

Also, I moved it to 8 PM since they have another large group at 7:30.

Update your RSVPs by Wednesday since I need to give them an accurate head count and entree selection.

Hi. Been awhile, hasn't it? I didn't realize how long it's been until Zen pointed it out to me.

We should get together soon. I found this great little family-run Italian place just around the corner from me. The father cooks and sometimes plays the piano, the mother hostesses and the daughter waits tables. Very nice place. You're going to love it.

This place can get busy and reservations are often hard to come by, so I'm not accepting reservations after next Saturday unless someone cancels. Trust me, you don't want to cancel.

It's BYOB. I'll be bringing a nice red.

See you there.

Faber, maybe we can do da fillipo's another time with a smaller group without the prix fixe menu and order from the menu. I'd love a Sicilian place nearby (especially since i'm Sicilian), but the menu was a bit too pricey for me too.

I can't really say that where I was last nite was a "mom and pop" truthful. It was far classier ....and was only $45 per person, including dessert for most of us. $75 per person is just too much for my purse unless it's something I know will be outstanding with good atmosphere. "A mom and pop" just does n't fit that bill ......btw I was at Prezzo.

@Sally Which "mom and pop" place in Warren were you at tonight?

@andrea No, the price was not shown before because, well, the owner didn't offer a prix fixe when I posted. Which restaurants do you like in the area?

I'm w/ Andrea & Rebecca! $75 for a "mom & pop" BYOB estaurant is WAY too pricey for me. There are many others (like the one I was just in 2nite in Warren) that are far less costly!

Hey all: was very much looking forward to this eve, however, just read the fine print.....was the price shown before? I'm with Rebecca, too pricey for me, although the location and folks attending make it hard to opt out. Maybe next event. Have a cream puff or two and enjoy....

Sorry ....my plans have changed and I will not be able to make this evening's plans. It sounds like a wonderful place tho so I'll be sure to check it out at some point in the future! Have fun, everyone! Sally
