Victor's Cafe

Open since 1963, this is the place New Yorkers return to for fantastic Cuban cuisine. A 1940's Havana look with latino music playing in the background that adds to the ambiance of the place. With a menu that includes black angus skirt steak in chimichurri sauce, roast suckling pig and paella. Superb cooking and warm friendly service adds to the delight of the evening. An average entrée here is $28 and their is also a price fixe menu available. Each couple is responsible for the cost of their own meal. A delightful dinner evening awaits at Victor's Café.

Only 4 stars instead of 5 because the seating arrangements were a bit awkward for some (Eddie and Haydee sitting in the corner) and hard to communicate with everyone. I know that the checks came without us being asked about dessert, but was rectified by Bob. All in all the food was great, but we couldn't hangout at the bar because there wasn't enough room :-( and we were almost colliding with the band :-(

Not a fan of the L shaped table either. I would have prefer one staight table but the room would not accomodate us. I can only suggest that when we have large crowds to try to seat next too different couples, so we can mix it a little.

Victor's Cafe was truly a wonderful experience. Art and I enjoyed the mojitos, they were quite strong and delicious. Live cuban music performed by a trio of musicians was enjoyable to listen to while we waited in the lounge. Happy to see all the "steadies", however, because the lounge was small, didn't get to talk to Arlene/Scott, and Jagoda/Janos; hopefully next time.
Now on to the food......delicious, outstanding; kudos to the chef. The wait staff handled the large party quite well, with the exception that they forgot to offer our side of the "L" table, a dessert menu and coffee. Oh well, I forgive them, because the dessert and carajillo(espresso & brandy) was very good.
I highly recommend Victor's Cafe for the ambiance, music, appetizers, entrees, and dessert; oh yes, don't forget the drinks. This restaurant has been put on our top 10 restaurant/cafe list. Thanks to Bob for selecting the restaurant, great choice!

I don't know exactly what happen but after doing this for 3 years , I pretty much have an idea. Someone ask for their check early. Once that happens it starts a chain reaction. The waiter sees a way out that he can leave on time and will tried to skip the coffee and desserts, realizing he has to hangout at least another hour. When I saw something going wrong at your table, I went up to the waiter and he told me that everyone ask for their check and I know that wasn't true. It was then I told him make sure you go around and asked everyone for coffee/dessert. This is an ongoing problem we have had many times.

con't,How do we solve this problem? Simple! When something like this happens, just make me aware of it and I promise I will take care of it. If the waiter is a problem, I go directly to the manager or the owner. Remember, before every dinner event, I am in constant contact with the restaurant and I already established, who I am. I don't want any of my members having conflicts with any of the staff, that's my job. I want everyone to come out and have a wonderful evening knowing that everything is taken care of.

I enjoyed the music in the lounge although the lounge was way too small. Nice back room. The food and company were superb however I felt that they were a little overwhelmed by our group. Service could have been better( it was difficult to get someone's attention and they totally forgot about dessert)

Outstanding Cuban food, nice decor and great service.
The live band in the lounge is a great addition.

Victor's Cafe stood up to it's reputation with some good food and hospitality. This place does very well on a Sat night and diners were still coming in as we left. Cute bar but much too small, staff could hardly handed the drink orders. Nice little live music going on in lounge. They set us up in the back dining room in an L shaped table. Very roomy at the table and waiter did a good job serving considering it was a busy night. Fun hanging out in the front for a smoke with Lucky Chengs female impersonators outside. Once again a real good evening with many of our steadies attending. On a note many of us recalling Gallaghers a few doors down, didn't realize until Arlene and I pass that the place has shut down after 85 years. However, it was picked up by a new owner and the place is under major renovation as it will reopen as the fame steakhouse once again. As soon as I get all the details, I will be checking it out for a future dinner event.

We've been here several times and it's always been a fun place. Their mojitos are excellent as well as the margheritas!
