What's so new about the New Atheism?

  • Aug 7, 2013 · 7:00 PM

[This is one of our "select" meetup, with reduced seating! Please note that dinner is not included with the fee.]

We've all heard of the so-called New Atheism, you know, the one resulting from books such as Dawkins' The God Delusion, Hitchens' God Is Not Great, Dennett's Breaking the Spell, Harris' Letter to a Christian Nation, and so forth. But what, precisely, is new about the NA? And, whatever it is, is it a good thing? The discussion will focus on a forthcoming paper (you can download it here) by yours truly, to be published in Midwest Studies in Philosophy.

Martha, sorry you missed it! HPenny, these select meetups are special precisely because the number of participants is small, to facilitate more interaction and conversation, I'd rather not make exceptions. Hopefully we'll get Marta next time!

Couldn't we make room for Marta? I know I am new to the group, but I promise I will take up as little physical space as is possible? It would be nice to have another woman there!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
