Do mathematicians discover things, or do they invent them? Is proving, say, Fermat's Last Theorem more akin to inventing the iPhone or to discovering a planet? As usual, you'll find some preliminary food for thought at our Files section.
Meet locals intrigued by philosophy and its impact on our understanding of life, the universe and everything! The usual format is a dinner at a restaurant in the city, with a limited number of people to enjoy conversation and intellectual give and take. The idea is that good conversation requires small crowds, and is helped by good food and wine, just like in the original Symposium by Plato. No technical background in philosophy required, just a love of wisdom! The Dinner and Philosophy meetup is a member of the Reasonable New York coalition.
