Learn to prevent and/or manage your running injuries


The San Diego Running Institute will be hosting a running injury clinic on November 13th at 6pm at our new location! We will cover prevention and treatment advice on typical running injuries. Some of the injuries being covered include...

Plantar FasciitisPlantar Fasciitis is a common cause of foot and heel pain in runners.  It is caused by repetitive impact resulting in strain and tearing of the plantar fascia attachment at the runner’s heel. 

Achilles Tendonitis: pain that occurs behind their ankle near where the achilles tendon attaches to their heel bone.

ITB Syndrome: pain in the outside of their knee that gets progressively worse while they are running.

Shin Splints: sharp radiating pain in the lower leg, that occurs while running and either gets progressively worse with every step or seems to warm up as you run. 

Chondromalacia (runners knee): pain underneath (deep) to your kneecap and is described as achy and painful while running, running downhill, downstairs, squatting or lunging.

Many more injuries will be covered as well as prevention techniques such as the foam roller, "The Stick" and strengthening exercises  and  when orthotics are appropriate in runners. Anti-Gravity Treadmill

The Anti-Gravity treadmill is a new toy at SDRI, it is a treadmill connected to a pressurized chamber which gives injured runners the ability to run pain free. Someone puts on these special shorts that zip into the chamber and then they are unweighted to a percentage of their bodyweight in which they feel ABSOLUTELY ZERO PAIN from their injury. Not only beneficial for injured athletes, someone without an injury is easily able to unweight themselves and thus be able to run quicker at a lesser intensity, then they would outside. A perfect way to increase mileage without the added impact. We will have a short demo of this amazing tool at the end of our clinic.
