2nd Annual Dive Bar Orphan Christmas! (With Free Chinese Food Dinner!)

UPDATE: We will joined today by our pals from The Social Detective Agency, Explore Long Beach, Men Behaving Badly, Excellent East of the 405 Foodie Wine & Cocktail Meetup, A Downtown Los Angeles Meetup, and the Sophisticated Singles & Friends! And now a word from Bar 107: "This Saturday is our Annual XXX-Mas Bash! When you're done listening to your creepy uncle's tales about what it was like in Vietnam, come forget it all with us. FREE Chinese food (while it lasts), 6PM we're showing Xanadu [starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly] w/soundtrack, & 10PM XXX-Mas kicks into high gear. Disgusting Claus & all the misfit toys will be here. BAR 107: where Merry Schlitzmas is a law." Hi, this is Joe P. (Pictured below. Look for me when you get there!) If you've got nowhere to go for Christmas because your family is too far away, or if you are going to be with your family and you need to sneak away, I've got just the thing...

Christmas at Bar 107! We went to Bar 107 for Christmas last year and it was so good that we're going back again this year! Roast duck and Chinese food are on the menu. The food is free; just buy a drink. And I understand there will be a special "holiday screening" there later in the evening. (Don't worry; it's not going to be like
last year's holiday screening!)
shock The drinks are cheap and the food is cheaper (i.e., free). (I believe the well drinks are $5 and the beer starts at $2.) They even have a real Photo Booth in the back for $2! And it's only 3 blocks from the Red Line's Pershing Square Station! I'm going to try and go early and grab the big booth on the left (when you walk in the door).
THE FOOD WILL NOT LAST VERY LONG! DO NOT SHOW UP AT 5:00PM AND THEN COMPLAIN THAT THEY WERE OUT OF FOOD!
We'll be there later than that, but the
food won't. Here is the link to the Yelp page for this place:
http://www.yelp.com/b...
PARKING: There is plenty of free street parking, especially on 4th Street in front of the bar. I called the Department of Transportation and they said that neither parking meter restrictions nor "No Stopping 4-6" regulations will be enforced on Christmas Day. (For more parking information, read "
Enforcement of Parking Regulations on National Holidays.") There is also a pay parking lot on the northeast corner of 4th Street and Main Street. Try not to park on the street east of Main Street, though: that's where Skid Row begins! (Hey, this really
is a Dive Bar!) But don't worry, we're not taking food away from homeless people; it's not
that kind of free Christmas dinner! This is for customers only, so buy a drink! To summarize:
Cover Charge: NONE Drink Minimum: NONE Price of Food: FREE Price of Drinks: Beer starts at $2. Soda is even less. See you there! Notes: 1) Don't worry: the bar is
not actually
in Skid Row! (That might be going a bit too far.)
smile 2) There is no sign outside Bar 107 that says "Bar 107." It says "Heileman's Old Style" and "Ollie's Sport Shop - Live Bait and Tackle." (See photo.) 3) I don't know how long the food will last. They are supposed to start serving at 3:45PM. 4) I'll be sending my cell phone number out to everyone who RSVPs before 12:00PM on December 25th. If you RSVP after that and you're thinking of arriving after 7:30PM, come on down anyway; we'll probably still be there. (Who knows... We might be there all night!)
ATTENTION MEETUP ORGANIZERS, ASSISTANT ORGANIZERS (AND EVERYONE ELSE): Please do not repost this event on Meetup, Facebook, or anywhere else
without permission. Thanks.

I had a good time. The food was priced right and I met some very nice folks, Dave, Tina, and Travis.

I'm a harsh critic. The bar wasn't too bad, I liked the bartender and I thought the food was ok, best of all it was busy and there were some cool people that attended.
The real downfall is that I saw a guy I like and then he left right away. I'll find out why later today if he shows up at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank.

Coming in from New York just for this event... well, not just for this, but it will seem like it. This event could compete with some Jewish singles events scheduled for Christmas- and the main traditional activity- eating Chinese food and going to the movies.
