"Grace and Hope" with Kevin Kim (video)

You are welcome here!

Yes, we will be here for New Year's Eve. Read more about tonight's content below.

Please click "About us" for information on our group and our schedule each Monday evening.

While RSVPs are not required, it would be great if you'd click "Yes" if you're coming to this and future meetings. That makes our group more visible on meetup, and encourages others to come.

See our current announcements, our complete event calendar and our online resources page.

Here's a transcript of the beginning of Kevin's message:

A few months ago my wife and I met up with a woman who was telling us a little about her family. She talked about her daughter and how when her daughter was born she had big hopes and dreams for her child, like any mother would. She shared how she wanted her child to be used by God to do awesome things—and she prayed for that. Maybe her daughter would grow up to be a doctor and God would use her mind and her hands to heal the sick. Maybe her daughter would be a lawyer and God would use her to stand up for justice and peace and fight against oppression and injustice. Or maybe, just maybe, God would call her the greatest calling that he can bestow upon a person—to marry a cute Korean youth pastor.

She had hopes for her child. She had dreams. There were plans.

She’s the type of mom that did everything right. She crossed her t’s and dotted her i’s when it came to her child. She bought all the right brands, all the right foods—all organic. She wouldn’t let her husband hold the child too much lest her ruin her—things that every wise mother would do.

Things were going well until one day, one afternoon. Her daughter fell to the floor just convulsing. Frantically they rushed her to the hospital not knowing what was wrong. They admitted her. Doctors stabilized her. Tests were run. Nothing was known.

And after two weeks of painful uncertainty, they found out that her 2-year old daughter had been diagnosed with a rare neural-genetic disorder that will leave her mentally impaired for life. And through her tears she asked the obvious question that anyone in her situation would ask: Why would God allow this to happen? What’s God’s purpose in all this pain? Where is he?

And that’s the question that we’re going to look at today because all of us have walked through shadows in life and I guarantee you that we will walk through more...
