Hands-on Workshop: Deploying Django to Amazon Web Services

Reminder: This is a hands-on workshop. Bring laptop.

Also, do a little prep work before the meeting. Do the 'Setup the AWS instances' and 'Prep your local' steps on this page: https://github.com/jrullmann/zombie-weapons

In this hands-on workshop, Jen Rullmann, founder of Red Monocle (http://www.redmonocle.com/), will walk us through deploying a python app to Amazon Web Services (AWS).  We'll use a sample django app from her github repository. To follow along you'll need to bring a laptop.  You'll also need to do a little setup prior to the meetup:

  1. Follow steps 1-6 on this page: https://github.com/jrullmann/zombie-weapons
  2. Stop the two instances.  This ensures that you won't be charged for their usage, but they'll only take  a minute to start again for the meeting.
  3. Clone this repository onto your local: https://github.com/jrullmann/zombie-weapons.git
  4. Install fabric onto your local.  It's available in the Ubuntu repository, through pip and through easy_install.  More info at http://fabfile.org/.

I found the speaker to be quite knowledgeable and interesting. Her insight has given me more to munch on concerning my own deployments.

I've been looking for space to park since 6pm and no luck. All the nearby garages close at 7pm. It's already 7:10p, so I guess I'll have to drop my RSVP.

Might still be able to make it, but hopefully someone else can take my spot if not.

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to send out a reminder that this meetup is a hands-on workshop, so bring your laptop! Also, for best results, do a little prep work before the meeting. Do the 'Setup the AWS instances' and 'Prep your local' steps on this page: https://github.com/jrullmann/zom...

    See you tomorrow!
