What: django-district April

When: Thursday, April 29,[masked]:00 PM

django-district officially turns one in April! Break out your kazoos and party hats for three great talks:

Django, Server-Side-Javascript style
Ryan McGrath,

Django is an amazing framework, but do you ever feel strapped down by Python? This may be a sacrilegious questiont, but what if we could take the great features of Django and power it with a more malleable language?

Luno is a new open source project that aims to mirror most of Django's features on top of Server Side Javascript (Node.js). When you combine Django's feature set with the flexibility of Javascript and the event-driven nature of Node, you get an awesome combination that seems difficult to beat. Come check it out!

The Annotated State of the Union
Chris Amico, PBS NewsHour

As Barack Obama delivered his first State of the Union Address the night of Jan. 19, a group of hand-picked experts offered commentary, analysis and a wealth of background knowledge to online readers of the PBS NewsHour, through the site's Annotated State of the Union. Built in Django in less than a week, the app let reporters and commentators offer granular insight on the text, giving audiences a much deeper look at the speech and its significance. Chris Amico, the interactive editor at the NewsHour, will talk about building the app and working with reporters to make it a success.

The Calloway Project: a loosely coupled website builder
Corey Oordt, The Washington Times

The Washington Times created a framework to create web sites, based on Django. Its components are designed to work well together or separate, or even be replaced. We'll go over the components and how they fit together.
