Testing in Django

Testing in Django

Come hear Yipit Software Engineer, Gabriel Falcão, speak about testing in Django.

Event Overview

Gabriel will discuss the shortcomings of Django's built-in test framework such as its inability to separate fast tests from slow ones and how unclear it is to cover models and views. The talk will cover Python tools such as Mock, UncleBob and Sure. It will be an opportunity for beginners to learn how to use a full stack of Django testing libraries as well as experts who are looking to gear-up their tool belts.

About the Speaker: Gabriel Falcão Gabriel is a passionate open source developer who graduated with a degree Free Software Technology in Brazil. He is the author of LettuceGuake Terminal and many software libraries. Prior to Yipit, Gabriel was a software engineer at globo.com, one of the largest media outlets in the world and where his automated testing skills were honed. By the end of 2010 won first place in the globo.com hacking contest. While not at work, he spends his time hacking on open source projects, writing poetry, long-boarding and studying photography. About the Host: Yipit

Yipit runs a large Amazon Web Services infrastructure using the latest technology including: Redis, Nginx, jQuery, Gunicorn and of course Django.  We are strong believers in continuous integration and rapid deployment (at least daily) and are constantly looking to improve the way we design, develop, deploy and maintain our platform. That is why we created the Yipit Django Speaker Series.

Beer will be provided.

Great presentation. I'll have to work on the hit tests and the mocking on my own, though, but the presenter pointed me in the right direction :)

While the talk was good, it probably should have been titled "alternate testing tools with django" as there was very little discussion of the native django tools to create testing. Despite that, I did take away some good information from the lecture.
